István Széchenyi, “The Greatest of All Hungarians”

Count István Széchenyi is widely regarded as the greatest Hungarian of all time. He was a statesman, politician, writer, and philanthropist who played a crucial role in shaping modern Hungary. Together with Lajos Kossuth, Ferenc Deák and Ferenc Wesselényi, he was one of the four great minds of the Hungarian Reform Age.
