Dessicant is a fool proof cure for moisture. I have a sealed dry box for the Qidi which holds the spool during use and it has a dessicant compartment to keep it dry. No active heating needed. Spool goes right into the box after opening and stays dry.

If you've been part of the 3D printing subreddit for a while, its been a repeatedly spoken rule to always dry your filament. Good thing you got it figured out. Although I would invest in a good filament dry box. Its helped me with problems like stringing and the issue that you are having here.

I am surprised that PLA can be affected by moisture that much.
