One thing you might add: Suriname was the first proposed future state of Israel! It's first capital was Torarica, named after the Torah.

The whole carebean and the latin geographic thing is a myth Brasil has the large african decendants and dutch colonial islands like curacou and the surrounding islands there are close with the dutch colony and the culture like a Suriname that has the dutch language as its national language and the population has dutch habits. Surinam food is a melting pot of African Hindustani, indonesia and Chinese, which is seen as the most popular food in the Netherlands.
Suriname is just a latin country given the estuary which makes the whole latin geographic thing a weird thing

While you video is informative and much appreciated it would serve you best to learn to pronounce the names of the places or terminology of the country. It can be very offensive to the Natives . The language.ostly spoken is Sranang Tongo ( ngo is smooth not the english ga sound).

Interesting demographics, similar story to Cape Town: Tussle between England and Netherlands, slaves from South East Asia, West Africa and Americas. Cape Town "Coloureds" are multiracial as well.

Dankie , dit was baie interessant. Groete van die Kaap.

Only a white man can equate a country's history that has been forged in slave trade, colonialism, loot and plunder, and further slavery of the locals as an 'April Fools joke episode'.

I expected the Chinese percentage to be much higher because when I was in NL I noticed that all their Chinese restaurants were actually “Surinaams” Chinese Restaurants so I thought they must have been pretty influential on the culture.

Don’t know why it’s weird though. Many countries in South America and the Caribbean are multi-ethnic. The only thing that’s different is that they don’t speak a Latin language like Spanish, Portuguese or French. But honestly Portuguese and French is also only in two Countries Brazil and French Guiana.

the amerindians were, as we all know the first inhabitants of the continent of America, thus also in Suirname. the reason why this group is small now in Suriname is because most of them were killed when the europeans infaded this country. some of them were forced into slavery. in Suriname the Amerindians are divided in two groups: the Caraibs and the Arrowaks.
the first East indians arrived in Surinam on the 5th of june 1873. the first ship of them was the Lala rookh. . there is a street in south -west of the capitol Paramaribo named after this ship and on the same street there is a building also named after this ship.
the javanese immigrants first arrived on the 9th of august 1890.
in one of our busiest streets in the center of Paramaribo, the Kezerstraat, is what is to be considered the 8th wonder of the world . a temple and a synagoge side by side in harmony.
the name of our cspitol, Paramaribo, is derrived from the word Paramuru. Paramuru as the name of an Amerindian vilage. that village was on the place where now the palmgarden(Palmentuin) is situaded. the palmgarden is the backyard of the governors house, now known as the presidential palace.
