What made me addicted to Path of Exile

"It's easy to get into", lol, that's like the most bullshit reason you could come up with to be honest. Even if we talk about just the campaign, the game is terribly complex and without some investment into researching or using guides, you might not even complete it in a reasonable time. The game is known for its extreme layers upon layers of complexity, its non handholding approach and unforgiving contents.

I used to love PoE until I realized it was the only game I was playing and I still wasn't completing the end-game storyline. It is absolutely the best game out there if you love the diablo-style ARPGs and have way too much time on your hands, but if you have a job and occasionally play other games, each new PoE seasons almost feels like an obligation. It takes some good self-discipline to resist their FOMO-based marketing.

PoE has too many systems its overwhelming at end game. Grim dawn and last epoch are really good though.

Is there a Difference between Hack and Slash, and ARPG's? or are they the same?

( i can honestly say Diablo started as a H&S then turned into a Action rpg)

Guess it's time to get slightly addicted for one League and then not touch the game for a few years again...

Starting out as a nobody and slowly climbing up the ladder is something Blizzard knew how to do at some point, you can still see it in Classic WoW. The whole "kill 5 boars and turn it in" type of quests might have been meme'd to death but there's no denying that it's more satisfying to go from there than to be called a hero or chosen one 5 minutes into the story.

I started POE before it was released( had only 2 acts) , and now after 2 years not playing i got back into it, and it feels like a new game, i would like to know how it would feel to play POE now for the first time.

Diablo 4 hasn't completed 1 year and is already falling into the obscurity of the mediocrity that it is.

with poe 2 and grim dawn expansion probally blizzard will receive a lot of hate more than ever....

I think D4, generally speaking, is a pretty good game. I as a consumer choose not to buy into their business model. I truly miss the days of, we make good game, you buy it, here is some DLC, see ya next game. POE has my interest, maybe try it out down the road.

Coming from D4 I’m spending as much time crafting as fighting…sorely missing in Diablo. Love the depth of this game and I’m not even endgame yet.

‘It’s Satisfying’ is the exact way I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe PoE since I started for the first time this lesgue. I’m level 60 in D4 with a Druid and nothing feels satisfying yet

I think I never got into PoE because I have this overwhelming need to make my own character in any type of MMO. If I don't get to pick hairstyle and whatnot I'm just not as engaged, and then the systems were harder to get into because I wasn't as anchored. Which is a shame, it's a great game.
I've wanted an action RPG like Diablo but not with the shitty stuff, but nothing really serves my palette the way I want.

Yeah, I, too, judge games by whether they have fishing or not. I hope fishing in PoE 2 is better.

RPG player, never played Diablo, picked up PoE and loved it. Chose Hierophant theme from the start and developed it the way I felt like at every choice point. Had plenty of challenges along the way but no struggles right through to the endgame.

I wish PoE was fun.

I feel like Grim Dawn hits a lot of similar notes PoE does regarding the "zero to hero" plot. In Grim Dawn even if you manage to do some good, the world's pretty much already fucked. It's folks trying to live and survive through a horrific, Eldritch apocalypse. The player's "heroism" can also have damning implications for others based on the choices made.

I think Josh would like Grim Dawn too but I'm biased in that I absolutely love Grim Dawn. :P

I've tried to get into Path of Exile so many times, but always hit a wall. It's so overwhelming and the loot system just confuses me, even with a loot filter.

@ Josh Can you imagine if D4 consistently crashed as much as POE the screeching that would go on?

The really bad thing about POE is over the years they have so much stuff added in if a new player new to ARPG or even a old ARPG guy needs to follow a guide otherwise you will have a hard time.....Diablo for as always has been easy to pickup and learn for a new ARPG player.

First of all, the story was non existent. Yeah, I know Blizzard bad, but damn, it's nothing comparing to Diablo world and IP. Secon, the gameplay is just... not for me I guess? Milions of explosions same time on the screen to wipe out the map is idle mobile game level nonsense. Finally, overblown skill tree with insignificant upgrades like +1% to something just to flex the size of it is just unnecessary. Would prefer to play D4 again than to touch POE with 4m stick.

I loved D2 growing up, became obsessed with D3 after ROS. I was consistently on the leaderboards on D3 between season 8-13. One day I tried PoE out of curiosity and I have never looked back. The game is arguably the greatest ARPG of all time. With an awesome studio behind it. The game is ever changing and immensely complex.

I played PoE when it was releasead and had only a fraction of its acts amd content, because I couldnt get diablo 3.

My internet was terrible and downloading the game took days, gameplay was laggy and still I played all the available acts 3 times.

What I dont like is the grind in the lategame of a seasons, hunting the shaper etc.
My luck never gave me the maps I needed and I simply stopped trying.

Ever tried Grim Dawn? That's my personal ARPG addiction. Doesn't involve a bunch of noob-unfriendly systems (I'm half joking, love PoE too but oh boy I don't have the time or desire to learn the intricacies of every...bloody...system 😂

I found the game really boring for some reason. Tried 3x in the last 10 years and never got into it.

Wow will never be the worse mmo. People just can’t swallow the fact that it’s still there. And Diablo has everything going for it expect good game play. Which makes the game shit and I want my money back 😂

What is currently the "worst" mmo on the series?

Big question, why do most PoE players (bar Josh as far as I know) have to complete the game on an alt just to sell items to make enough wealth to make the build they actually want to have?
I've been googling about PoE being P2W since I didn't think it was (still don't), but I'm a relatively casual consistent player so I wanted others opinions.
Turns out the majority of players start a character at the beginning of a league, play through and farm, store basically everything and barely interact with the game until high level where it's just trading and making a new character to then actually play how they want to.

I really like the game, I love it, but seeing the weird hoops people will jump through for a small power spike over other players already at end game in a 99% PvE game is hilarious and concerning at the same time.

inb4 people start the P2W argument: no one cares, I care about why people who play a lot think there's value in not enjoying their game for six hours at a time before they can spend another 3 leveling up an alt to actually enjoy it after that.
If you want to spend money on the game that's your own business, I just think it's a waste for myself since I'm not going to be doing trading in a temporary game mode where all of my things will be moved to normal after anyways, devaluing all the effort I put into the current league.

Like... At a certain point you wonder if they need help finding something else to play if all their doing is spamming alts on a temp game mode, knowing full well their progress will leave them eventually and they won't even be able to use anything they gained next league since that WOULD actually make it 100% without a doubt to anyone pay-2-win.

Maybe bad place to put it, I love PoE, it just seems like the majority of other people who like it are insane
