I've seen this movie and clip many times and each time I cry such an emotional scene

This scene is for all of us Latinos growing up in the USA when we tried so hard to assimilate. When our parents, tío/tías, or abuelitos looked at us and confronted us with their tears streaming down their eyes as we rejected them, their culture, their language and attempted to hide them. Rejecting them, we rejected a part of ourselves.

This scene always makes my eyes leaky. Every performance of every actor was perfect in this movie, and this scene was a fantastic and memorable ending.

This scene makes me cry every time. I really identified with her daughter as a kid and wanted her to stay at the school but now I understand why she did this.

To be mature to make a sacrifice of personal for what is right, without unnecessary drama.

Cristina's mind & heart was bought by the material wealth of the Clasky's. Flor simply didn't want her daughter to loose her self-worth & develop a false sense of entitlement. Although the gifts & entry to a prestigious middle school is nice, they were given to Cristina out of indifference not out of care or love. Cristina was being used & didn't realize it. At some point those "gifts" would've been taken back by the Claskys' even if Flor hadn't made her give them up

"I am my mother's daughter". Your job doesn't define you and no one except your family will remember or care about you when all is said and done or when you pass on..that's how I view the message, personally, of this movie.

If anyone is interested in other commentaries on race relations in Los Angeles between those of Mexican descent and white Americans, read The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle. Very good book that I read in my english class.
