So had Black Isle had Dark Sun adaptation, should it be “Fallout: Athas” (complete with a cartoon mascot and dark comedy) or “Dark Sun Torment” (amnesiac in philosophical analysis of the setting)?
ОтветитьD&D was made out of a wargame...
ОтветитьIt's so depressing knowing we get endless sequels to Fast and Furious, but we will probably never witness the glory of Dark Sun because our culture sucks.
ОтветитьI had the same introduction to D&D, picked up a pack of the cards, and I had to start reading the books, which lead to my first AD&D reprint box set.
ОтветитьDark sun and eberon are hands down the best d&d campaigns
ОтветитьOriginal cover artwork was godly.
ОтветитьPlease get back together and make more videos.
Best DnD vids ever.
Brom is to Dark Sun as Tony DiTerlizzi is to Planescape
ОтветитьIt was great getting all these nifty toys and toolsets being brought in. One of my favorite additions was Avengions; where dragons (specifically The Dragon of the Tyr region) are engions of destruction, Avengions are creatures of hope, of creation. Those 2 pc games, the core paperbacks, etc. hold such a warm place in my heart.
ОтветитьBlock me so I don't have to see your videos.
ОтветитьIt's funny to me that people today are calling the setting problematic when it is the most politically correct setting in D&D. The whole campaign is about overthrowing genocidal, racist slaver tyrants who destroy the environment for personal gain. It's revolutionary anti-colonialism and climate change in game form with defiling as a stand-in for petroleum and industrialization.
ОтветитьFight the good fight every buddy...
ОтветитьCrit Hit! Cough cough!!
ОтветитьSorry, the Woke Reaper came for Dark Sun.
ОтветитьI just started listening to the novels for Dark Sun. I read the first two when I was 15 and they hold up well.
ОтветитьDark Sun is great because it was written by someone NOT EMPLOYED BY WIZARDS OR HASBRO.
Darksun
Slavery
Violence
Cannibal halflings
Life stealing magic
Like medieval mad max.
Hasbros and wizards would bring rainbows and woke redemption to dark sun
Im surprised they havent redone this just to destroy it from the bottom up.
I run my own DarkSun/Carcosa (lotfp) campaign setting. I've always loved this Setting. Thank you for the energy of this vid. 4years late to the party 😅
ОтветитьOne reason among others why DS is great: Brom.
ОтветитьI was a Dungeon Master for Dark Sun. It's an incredible, unique, and very rich universe. I loved it! Today, I have obsidian dice as a tribute to the world of Athas, which holds a special place in my dice collection!
ОтветитьSo psyonics are basically the resource free version of magic, and arcane magic is "blood magic"?
ОтветитьMy homebrew world is similar to Jim's: it is post-apocalyptic. That said, it has been infected by CoC Mythos beings (I am using a source for 5e from Sandy Petersen Games)
ОтветитьThe problem I have with Dark Sun is that after a mass extinction event, megafaunas would die out disproportionately. This is easily fixable. Take the size in the Player's Handbook and make them smaller, by 6" and even up to a foot for humans. No half giants or ThriKeen unless they are a fourth the size.
Another rarity would be leather as animal agriculture requires intense amount of water and arable land. The challenge would be maybe desert reptiles hide for armor but would be thin due to resources. I think metal could be around more if recycled but the quality would be poor, think heavy iron and bronze that would not be practical to wear in a hot, arid environment.
Dark Sun makes a great fantasy story to talk about but I don't see any videos of people actually playing the setting it. Reminds me of the Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan. A great dungeon to read about as a DM but doesn't translate into a great adventure due very unique features specific to the adventure that is like playing a different game.
I would reckon that the polar regions would be like Mars, small ice caps, and would think that would be the place for civilization to thrive and the adventure would be to travel from one polar region to the other having a northern vs southern economic powers with each side trading for something that the other side has surplus of. Think in terms of polar seasons being a huge factor in agriculture and there would be "snowbird" caravans where a certain populace want to live in a better weather during the seasons to avoid the winter.
Only the sorcerer kings could take from the life source of people because of their obsidian orbs in the books.
ОтветитьMork Borg is a setting I'd love to hear their takes on since they like this and Warhammer
ОтветитьLol cannibal halflings, they are like Kindred mixed with run of the mill halflings but attitudes of Borderlands bandits
ОтветитьBetter way to describe the setting think book of Enoch in egypt, with massive Slavers lol also a Great setting for planescape or SpellJammer
ОтветитьI had a Campaign, back in highschool with Darksun....Love the world Love the whole feel, my DM had A defiler that used Elves as his power source to draw from useing a mixture of Necromancy and blood magic, he kept Resurrecting his 4 Elves just to kill them by useing Defiler magic.
Ответить"You know, Dungeons & Dragons is great, but what if nobody had swords or water? That'll be fun to play!"
- Acquisitions Inc. on Dark Sun
No official 5E version.
ОтветитьI have been searching for art to use in my Dark Sun campaign, and the fact that it has been so difficult to find just goes to show how specific and different the Dark Sun aesthetic really is.
Ответитьi love metaplot and i love old world of darkness
ОтветитьA bit late for the party, but what the heck! The best (and quickest) way I found to describe the Dark Sun setting was "Mad Max meets Conan the Barbarian" ⚔️
ОтветитьShadowrun has a big metaplot. It advances well with every edition.
Ответитьthere was a dnd trading card that had a 2nd ed dual classed cleric/paladin. the ultimate PC giga chad of 2nd edition
ОтветитьI love this setting
ОтветитьNo beard.
ОтветитьI just stumbled across this video again, and it makes me want to run a game of Dark Sun with the Cypher System
ОтветитьMy favorite dnd world by a lot.
ОтветитьPretty simple to make homebrew 5e to it if you have the 4e Dark sun materials or earlier.
ОтветитьIf you want settings with great metaplots, look at Savage Worlds, and specifically Deadlands. The metaplot backstory starts in the middle-ages, which is supposed to be explored in the upcoming Deadlands: Dark Ages setting, really comes to life in Deadlands: The Weird West, continues into the 1920's with Deadlands: Noir, shows what happens if the evil powers win with Deadlands: Hell on Earth, and has a futuristic setting on another world connected with a character of the Weird West in Deadlands: Lost Colony. It's brilliant.
ОтветитьUr Draxa and Avangions please
ОтветитьWind riders of the Jagged Cliffs please
Thri Kreen Empire, The Last Sea, and the Lost City States as well
I think my biggest gribe with 5th edition and a possible Dark Sun conversion will be creature stat bonus and the lack of negatives. How can you possibly justify a Halfling that cen be as strong as 12 feet tall half-Giant f.ex.
ОтветитьIt's wrong to call Dark Sun "Post-Apocalyptic".
The apocalypse is still ongoing.
Athasian halflings aren't cannibals : they don't eat each other. It's your fault you're not an halfling... :p
ОтветитьFrom all I read and compared to, Dark Sun is ironically one of the easiest campaigns to run. Since it removes a lot of the typical power creep with magic and just makes everybody powerful. Yet everything around them just as deadly as they are out the box, so you can be really creative by losing the crutch of magic. Only tapping to such when you really need to.
