Hey guys, for those saying this practice is rotoscoping, it isn't. I'm seeing quite a number of misinformed comments concluding this is rotoscoping. Rotoscoping is the practice of drawing OVER the footage - that can also lead to tracing the footage. While rotoscoping is a separate discussion worth having, this is not what I'm doing here. I would treat this like life drawing where you are training your eye and observation skills to translate from reference to your animation/drawing.

I think I just figured out the live action part. I have an assignment for animating a pitching animation. and while the idea is to animate a character throwing a ball, the style of a cartoon character wasn't appealing to me. So, I got my best friend that's a university pitcher to send me a clip of his pitching practice as reference to animate this project. It made the assignment easier, but also gave me a great opportunity to study movement and how the physics of his anatomy move through the motion of pitching. Really cool stuff and I got a lot more out of this small assignment than I would have otherwise.

Disney also has actors do scenes so they have their own rotoscopes to work with. They also apparently watched hammer time like a million times to get Aladin's pants right.

I use to practice drawing and making comics because I thought I can learn to draw and practice movements and emotions... but now time for me to take a scary step to animations, hope I improve more

Do I understand correctly: you draw each frame in the reference videos in order, right? When you look at it like this, it's a nice solution to the problem of finding a difficult pose. But for animation, wouldn't it be better to just find the keyframes and draw them and fill in the intermediate frames ourselves?

I think my plan is this:
Focus on building my drawing skills
But do animation exercises aswell on the side.

Those who think that it's rotoscoping ... Lemme tell u the difference ... In rotoscope u just drag the video in ur animation software and just trace each frame ..u just don't try to understand how that works ... And in this video method u are actually killing two birds with one stone ... Cause u ll be playing the videos like a 100 times before u draw so u ll understand each frame u make and how the movements works how the spacing should be in such scenes and 2nd of all u cant improve drawing in tracing but in this method it's like a normal drawing class in which u observe the thing or person in front of u and u draw ... My English might be bad so ignore it lmao thx toniko pantoja 👍
