Probably the most underrated ways to get your first pull up is to lose excess body fat! If you are above 15% and have little to no strength training there is no wonder you are struggling to do a pull up! Consider running a moderate cut alongside your strength training and your calisthenics skills will skyrocket

I've been stuck at 11, 6, 6 reps for like three months. It is driving me crazy.:P I have been gaining weight so maybe that is offsetting.

Negatives is the one that made my pull ups improved tremendously. Now I am able to do 10reps(static paused @8th rep) of 8 sets with 3-5 mins rest interval. I am also doing scapular pulls during my non-back days.

What do 300lb do? I'm athletic 6'10" and can see 4 abs. I'm stuck on Australian pullups with feet elevated so torso is flat.

@toastrecon
@toastrecon - 06.06.2023 21:39

One tricky thing that I realized while using the bands: elastics and springs like that follow Hooke's Law, which says that the spring force is proportional to the deflection or elongation. What that means for the pull up is that you get a ton of "assist" at the bottom of the pull up and almost none at the top. Not a huge deal, but I found that it made me really weak in the lower range. I ended up just doing jumping negatives and trying to pull up to work the motion from both ends of the range and it helped.

Besides running, pull ups are the most important exercise imo. Physically, it allows you to get out of dangerous situations and works all pulling muscles, which pulling is more important than pushing, to me at least. Mentally though, of you’re not strong enough to lift yourself up physically, you cannot lift yourself mentally too. Im not tying to be a bully, but if you are too weak for your own body, what does that say about you as a person and how capable you are?

My problem isn't I can't do a pull-up, my problem is I can't do more than 5 Pull-Ups before I feel a sharp pain between my bicep and forearm where the elbow bends. I cannot say when this happened exactly. What I can say is I'm worried about further injury. Any advice?
