From LA to your first stop to charge, how many miles did it consume?

The Cybertruck definitely needs alot if improvements in terms of charging rate and ranges. Very disappointed with the charging rate and ranges for a truck that was delayed a few years. Tesla seem like really dropped the ball with Cybertruck. More i think about it its more like a vaporware.

500 wh/mile seems to be the standard for full size pickups.

It’s a truck. 65mph tops if endurance is what you care about. 75mph is for cars long haul.

Rain is really bad for efficiency. You should just aim for as low as possible state of charge, but it isn't the end of the world if you can't do it. It's just much faster charging. Try to stay at hotels where you can charge so you don't have to worry about charging at your destination.

I always asked myself how well sealed is the tonneau cover when it rains, is there some water leakage in case you need to transport some delicate stuff?

Thank you for the informative video. My wife and I just made the same LA to Las Vegas trip on January 19th in our 2017 Tesla Model S 75D. It was fun reliving our trip with your video.

We had clear weather with temperatures around 55 degrees F. We stopped in Baker, CA to supercharge. I was very jealous of you getting 257 kW’s at one point. Having an older battery pack of 19650 cells has Tesla limiting our max charging to 105 kW’s to extend battery life. You said you got just over 500 wh/mile. I didn’t think that was too bad for having a vehicle weighing around 6800 lbs, a Cd of .34 and having rainy weather. We got around 330 wh/mile in our car weighing 4600 lbs, Cd of .24 and dry weather.

It will be interesting to see what efficiency you get on your return trip if you have better weather conditions.

Have safe journeys and enjoy your Cybertruck. Jeff and Carrie.

I drive from la to Vegas all the time with my model x plaid (rated at 333miles of range) First of all it take a lot more energy to go to Vegas vs going to Los angles from Vegas due to the elevation gain. I drive at the speed of traffic which is 80-85mph and I can make it to primm with about 10% which is where I charge and I can make it home to Los Angeles from Vegas with out charging.

242 MI well that's very good on a modified Cybertruck truthfully I'm surprised I thought the range would be a lot worse with the modifications you have on this truck I thought it would be like 190 not over 200 mile with your mods, I'm surprised. The EPA they estimated this truck gets 320 Mi of range with everything right on it, your truck is not right because it's modified so you get 242 Mile range "me" that sounds fair, that sounds about right because you driving a modified truck, with wheel aches the carbon fiber ones you have on steak out about 4in more then what the manufacturer has set, right sir ? so that's the range you shall get. You just made yourself look like an idiot and made my point thank you sir ..... let's not forget about he has no wheel covers on his wheels also mmmmmmmmmmmmmm stop the bs please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to see you do a video analyzing how to use the Energy Screen and explain the info it provides. 1) USE THE ENERGY SCREEN. It is amazingly informative. You will know exactly what aspect of this drive contributed to the difference between predicted consumption and actual consumption. 2) It was mostly the rain btw. Rain really affects aerodynamics, and it’s the most unpredictable element of any drive. 3) overriding the navigation by replacing stops can work, but overriding it during charging is just dumb. You can always charge beyond when it recommends to continue trip. 4) The Tesla software for charging takes into account your current driving dynamics when calculating the next leg and the charging session will reflect that. If your safety and security brain needs some extra charge to feel better, not the %SOC when the software says to continue your trip, and then charge 5% beyond that. Or 10%, or whatever your brain needs to feel comfortable. 5) USE THE ENERGY SCREEN! If you repeatedly use the screen on every drive, your safety and security brain will relax because you will grow to understand the dynamics of what influences the actual vs predicted delta. You were trying to guess was it weather, was it elevation, was it driving style, was it ???? All that goes away when you pay attention to the energy screen.

For BEV the optimum is @60 mph if you are wanting to get max range. 75 is not the optimal in a Truck.

Good road trip. You definitely had the two best companions for it.

A piece of advice, if you replace the 'cracked window' sticker, put it on the inside of the window.

That way, the airstream won't be able to force its way under the edge and peel it off the vehicle.

As a long time Tesla investor they need to fix that cyber truck ASAP everything that I see is a disaster starting from the range I wanted the cyber truck for the over 500 miles of range just because didn’t want to stop charging going Vegas to California. Well that sucks

So other than speed, this seems to be a good "worst case scenario. Rain the entire way, cold temps, and also IIRC wider wheel trim and different tires. Can't wait to see a summer run as well.

Also, after leaving a super charger (or whenever starting a trip), it's very common for me to see an absurdly high wH/mi reading. It takes a few minutes to settle down.

We werent expecting it to get good range with all the custom stuff right? The flares alone had to eat the range. When you consider that and the rims, and the (i think) different tires. plus the weather. This is about what I wouldve expected. maybe better tbh

Ответить
@Epiha
@Epiha - 14.02.2024 23:13

You changed the rims. You lose efficiency via the rims. A model 3 loses 24 miles of range when you buy the higher end rims. 18 mile loss with the Y and likely similar with the X and S wheel choices.

Did you drive at the lowest heighth or did you drive with the truck lifted? That affects the range as well.

Ответить
@DreamsCascade
@DreamsCascade - 16.02.2024 02:45

“not speeding at all” 75 isn’t efficient. “only 60% for trips” it literally says 90%+ for trips when you adjust the limit. 😖

@bartdeking - 19.02.2024 09:11

I do not understand why you are saying that the cybertruck "is not doing well at all"
You are driving between 35 and 47F which instantly gives you 20% less range than EPA test at 68-86F
Also you drive at 78MPH which is a lot higher than 48MPH highway EPA test.

You get easily 320mile if you drive 60MPH and the temperature is above 68F

Ответить
@bartdeking
@bartdeking - 19.02.2024 09:20

Maybe drive 60MPH and you can just make it to Las Vegas and it can charge while you sleep at your destination. That is faster than driving 80MPH and having to stop for 20 minutes.
