It's insane how these numbers prove why I don't go future proofing. Still, tried the FX 8350 and it was kinda problematic, but it was a good experience. Temps were insane and it needed an aftermarket cooler to stay silent and cool.

Hard to find a decent FX motherboard to go with the FX 8350.
I would still put my money on the FX 8350 since the 8350 is faster and has 8 REAL cores, not threads. Anyone knows that threads are nothing more that greatly exaggerated hype as the early LGA 1155 Intel i5 2500 VS i7 2600 proved there was almost no difference between the two CPUs despite the i7 2600 having 2 MB more cache and 4 extra threads.

went from an 8370 to r5 1600af to r93900x. Gave the 1600AF to friend on an 8350 and spinning rust for his only drive. He got a good b450 mb and 32gb ram and a 2tb ssd. He hadn't really been that interested in an ssd. The look on his face when we went around the corner to smoke and I warned him he wouldn't have long before windows finished installing and was ready for him. He asked how long and I glanced around the corner and said "0 seconds, it just finished". NOW he believes in ssd's :).

i have the FX8310 with a RX580 8gb GPU i am wondering if it would be smart to just buy a good AM3 MB with 32GB's memory and a second RX580 and keep this FX for a few more years.

I got FX6300 and this CPU can play Doom Eternal easily with some overclock paired with an RX580 on ultra settings. WOW. Some stutters here and there, but that would of be gone with some overclocking. I don't know how to OC sadly.
Prices are far out even in Türkiye. Around 60$ for FX8350 like WTF. I could buy Ryzen 5 3600 instead with that money almost. I guess some people just love to OC their CPU as FX series are known for that. But if you already have that CPU, it's fine to keep it. Good for a spare computer.

I've had my 8350 since it's release, almost 10 years, but I had to change due to stutters I experienced in some fps games such as Battlefield V for example, it was actually impossible to play it without the game freezing for a few milliseconds every 6-7 seconds. The cpu oriented games such as Hoi4 runs way way WAAAAY better on my new Ryzen 5600.
The 8350 was the boss when I bought it, with 8 cores and very low temps with 212 evo. I'm still using it as my second pc for movies and light gaming, amazing performance 10 years later

One of the things I've noticed over the years as an FX-8350 owner is that in a lot of modern games, I'll get the same FPS whether I play the game on medium or high settings because of the CPU bottleneck, paired with a GTX 1070

My daily driver is a nice ryzen 9 system, but for fun I recently acquired an amd a8-3870k and accompanying motherboard along with an odd combination of ddr3 that I salvaged from old systems totaling 10 gigabytes. The 4 core 4 thread apu from over a decade ago is quite surprising. In daily tasks, tube videos, web searches, and even some titanfall2 runs pretty well and it’s fun to mess around with. I paid 50 dollars for the mobo, chip, a single stick of ddr3 2 gig and a 1tb spinning hdd. For 50 dollars it’s still too much to have spent on this for any reason other than just the curiosity of what this system would have been like to use back in the day.

I never really understood all the hating on the 8350. I got mine new for $99 back in the day and used it for about 4 years at which time I made the jump to AM4 with a 2700x and a 5700xt. Those 4 years were good with that CPU and had a GTX 750ti paired with it. Ran great. Cannot touch my current build, 5600x paired with an RX 6800xt though.

So, if I had listened to every review out there in 2012 when I bought my Socket AM3+ motherboard and bought a quad core something or other instead of my FX 8150, I could have upgraded later, even after Ryzen, to an FX Octal core chip that handily runs all games up to and including the newest stuff without trouble. For $80 that would be a good upgrade. Whereas when the first Ryzens came out, much the same cost as my last upgrade in 2012 was going to be there to get into a Ryzen System (Motherboard, CPU, RAM minimum). In fact, I helped a buddy upgrade his old Intel quad whatever to a Ryzen just a few years ago and it was still $350+.

So, the second hand market is bloated, but it is also due to scarcity of the higher end FX chips which actually are same tier as the early Ryzen and lower end current Ryzen batches. That is, within 15% of the same performance ranges. I will be running my FX 8150, clock fixed at 4.3Ghz to 4.5Ghz and VRMs cooled (same R15 rating of 660+ as i7-3770), for many years to come as my primary HTPC and gaming PC. Something truly amazing would have to be released with "next gen" specs required for me to want to spend current prices for a system upgrade.

For the most efficient use of the 8350, the memory frequency should be greater than 1866 (better than 2100) and the northbridge frequency should be greater than 2500 (better than 2600)

Even the 1200 (non AF) is better than the whole FX line up, and is only 65W. FX CPUs are not worth unless they are found very cheap on the used market, because even the 1200 can be found easily bellow 50€. Wouldn't give more than 25€ for any of the 8-core FX.

The problem that I have run into is that living on a fixed income I can afford to replace the now dead 6300 I have on my board (it died last week) with an 8350 even though it is clearly inferior and more expensive than entry level Ryzen's but I cannot afford to replace all the peripherals to the chip like ram and mother board. There is an additional cost to upgrading to the newer architecture that pushes the budget generally above $200 which is the absolute maximum I have to spend.

Edit: The final system specs after replacing the current dead CPU would be an 8350 on an asus M5A97R2.0 board running 28 gigs of DDR3 at 1600mhz with an nvidia 1660 Super and an EVGA Nex750b 750 watt psu rated at 80+bronze, which is respectable even in 2022 for building on a budget. I would love to move to an AM4 socket but it is just prohibitively expensive for me to replace board and ram with something comparable.

I still don't regret trashing my 8350 in favor of a 4790k that I still have. The 8350 may be better today than it was when released, but it's been the only CPU I've owned that felt like I'd been ripped off- epic disappointment though this was when it first came out though. I was all AMD/ATI before that but I still go Intel on CPUs these Days because the 8350 was such a disappointing trash POS when it was released. I still go AMD on GPUs and when I do finally upgrade it'll be a tossup between AMD/Intel on CPUs, really just depends on which benchmarks the best when the time comes.

It is ironic though that these things aged so well, I'm glad they still have value and are usable- you can't say that about a lot of hardware that ends up in a dump within a few Years of being produced!

My fx8350 still runs most things well. 4.6 GHz, with 16gb of 1866 RAM. The HD7970 holds it back a bit in demanding modern games. RDR2 ran more smoothly with a R390x. I sold the latter as it was unreliable, so the 7970 still rules my roost.

FX chips are not worth considering unless the system falls into your lap very cheaply. Intel systems from that era are much better and better value. The next stop should be gen 3 RYZEN because they will work in very cheap motherboards, much cheaper than an old FX motherboard. You can't buy RYZEN 3, may as well get RYZEN 7 3700 from ebay.

I'm still using the FX-8350. The most 'recent' games I own are Dark Souls 3 and Dead By Daylight, and while I don't get consistent 60fps on either, they still run well enough. I can record gameplay and still be in the range of 50+ frames, so it's definitely good enough for me.

In my opinion, it is completely useless and it does not solve at all and will not help to improve the performance of games put into this set: AMD FX 8350 graphics card type RTX 3070 and higher. I tried it and in the first new game I noticed a deterioration in performance in the game. After that, I found that I was achieving much better performance with the older AMD RX 5700 XT graphics card, which is much slower than the RTX 3070. Some say that the older PC (AMD FX 8350 with RX 570x graphics card combination was quite slow so I replaced it with the RX 5700 XT and got much better performance. Then I put the RTX 3070 into this PC and the gaming performance went down) is it good to give a slower graphics card of newer production 2020 not some higher middle class RTX 3070? What is your opinion? What graphics cards GTX 1660 Super or RTX 3050 could help improve performance on AMD FX 8350?

I use an 8120 for a workstation and it works well for what I use it for. The only problem I have now is my motherboard got power surge damage and the price for a good working used one if you can find it is ridiculous. If I have problems again it will make more sense to get a more modern processor that will give me more choices and cost about the same.
