Good. It's an annoying industry. Nothing personal, not hating on car salesmen themselves. But the moment you show up, you are a target to sell a loan to. The car -- it's just an object that the loan is based on. You show up ready to pay cash, you watch the life die in the eyes of the salesman. They lose interest in you, they don't care that much about selling the car, it's the LOAN they are excited about selling. Never pay cash. Do the long infuriating negotation, get the loan and make sure it has ZERO pre-payment penalty, in writing. IN WRITING. Then pay the whole loan off after walking away with the car. And don't try bait and switch with their finance guys, they'll tear up the contract and say "that's not what we agreed to" if you tell them you'll finance and then "change your mind" at the end and say you'll pay it all down.

Car dealers are always ripping people off. This is called karma.

deceptive or fraudulent; disposed to cheat or defraud or deceive salesmen.

That couple just taught their 16 year old how to not be accountable and if you bitch like a Karen you will get what you want.

You have to remember, as the interest rate goes up, the number of available buyers goes down, therefore the prices stagnate or go down. You can always overpay your loan and get out of debt earlier.

Supply and Demand.
Supply still low relative to pre-pandemic. For example, in Montana among 3 Honda dealers there are zero Honda Pilot LX on the lots, and only one Honda Pilot Sport on the lots. There are zero Subaru Ascent base trim in dealers in both Montana and Alaska, states where Subarus are very popular. And the big 3 may have lower supply if the United Auto Workers strike.
Demand is lower because interest rates are at a 20-year high.

Hopefully we can eliminate used car salesmen completely. . That would be great. I always do better buying direct. We need them as much as we need lawyers. Those jobs just increase inflation.

Never patronize private businesses that make you pay their operating costs. Their overhead is not your problem. Buy directly from the company that manufactures the product you want. If its not in stock, wait until it restocks.

My local Honda dealer was adding $8000 to their sticker prices but not telling customers until they showed up to buy a car in an ad. That’s shady! I hope they go bankrupt! Don’t feel sorry for them at all!
