Percentages are the best for me. Works no matter what. I use Soapcalc for my recipe formulations.
ОтветитьHello Ellen, lovely as always and yes tallow all the way pig tallow, bison tallow , beef tallow I am in. Make a tallow face cream and thanked me later. It’s a GREAT one and makes huge difference on your skin care routine. Ps not that you needed because you looks fabulous.
ОтветитьPerfect!!! Thanks Ellen I wanted to try tallow soap since I do lard and now I know
ОтветитьThanks for the comparison! I have tons of tallow rendered from my own cows and i primarily use that in all my recipes. I have pig fat in freezer and will render that too soon. I was going to start diving into lard recipes and videos for more information . Great video as always! ❤
ОтветитьSimplesmente demais! Adoro seus vídeos. Saudações do Brasil! 🇧🇷😍👏
ОтветитьWhat was tour SF? And water to lye / ratio?
ОтветитьWow loved the video, thanks for sharing side by side with tallow and lard . I have to try this. The colors and swirls are beautiful. Like I always say you the best best. You come up with so many ideas for us. Thank you Ellen.
ОтветитьWonderful video Ellen, loved that you did both recipes! ❤
ОтветитьVery nice and educational video. Thank you for sharing.❤
ОтветитьWhat a PERFECT side by side comparison!!!! Thank you so much for doing that!!! Beautiful soaps!!!
ОтветитьThank you for doingbthe side by side comparison. The swirls in the soap's look lovely I love the tallow soap with all the lather.Thank you for sharing 😊xx
ОтветитьQue bom que está em gramas Ellen!! Amei 💞
ОтветитьWhen I need to convert grams to ounces. I ask Alexa! 😂
ОтветитьMy husband says his mother used to have to make soap back in the day. So, I asked him what, if there is, a difference in tallow vs lard in soap. He explained and answered correctly! I've been trying to make more natural soaps in hopes to get us further off the detergent "soaps". It's a struggle with inflation, but we're making it work! Great video and thanks for the comparison! 💖
ОтветитьI have made shave soap with lard but just made a tallow soap still curing but seems bubbly! I also love your triple butter recipe, will make a great face soap!
ОтветитьI love beef tallow, I made the same 3 ingredient recipe and I love it!! I too rendered down some beef for tallow ❤😊. Thanks Ellen.
ОтветитьI would add castor to boost the lather for both. Interesting! Thank you for demoing them I've always been curious which would be better.💞
ОтветитьTallow is richer in stearic acid and has more satturated fats than lard, therefore the difference in lather. But lard is so creamy and gentle. They are both great fats for soap
ОтветитьBeing farmers, I render my own tallow from our animals. Most of my soaps use tallow, coconut and olive. I use both beef and sheep tallow. You mentioned the bacon smell in your lard. I clean my tallow 2-3 times before i use it and have no smell in them. Always seemed more sustainable to us to use what came from the back yard than palm ftom the other side of the world.
ОтветитьIve always used both and love each one. I have to say my lard soap is the best loved because I love the creaminess. Homestead soap i think is absolutely top notch! Thank u for the comparison video, it is nice❤. Can't wait for the next one!
ОтветитьHola sra.
Tallow has a little more lauric and stearic acid in it, this more bubbles. I love them both but tend to use more lard as the cleansing is a little less and condition higher.
ОтветитьGive me lard over tallow any day. Great for swirls.
ОтветитьYes i love tallow soap as well! This is my direct ingredients for my soaps as well. Thank you for measuring the molds. I never knew how to do that.
Ответить💜💜💜
I’ve got some Lard that I rendered a few months back and was waiting for a good recipe to use it in. Going to try yours and also a 100% as a comparison! Now I’m excited about it. You are always a source of inspiration, thank you!
💜💜💜
This is awesome just to let you know I am making the soap as we speak and I rendered my Tallow and also my lard from the cow and the two pigs I bought
ОтветитьThis video is so helpful. Thanks for sharing
ОтветитьHi Ellen when using tall and skinny molds what do you suggest the thickness of the bar works best because they are not as wide
ОтветитьI use tallow more than lard just because of easier access (I save the lard and bacon fat for cooking), but I did get a little pork fat recently and I double rendered some for soap. I also got 10lbs of Crisco to use from the local food pantry and I'm liking the combo of tallow, Crisco, and coconut oil for soap. Thanks for the demo 🪻🌷🪷
ОтветитьGreat video 😊!
ОтветитьI love the video. I don't know which I like best. I have made both tallow and Lard soaps, if I would make a choice, it would be Tallow! As one comment stated, I to have did a mixture! So GLAD you are still here! Blessings to your family!
ОтветитьHi, Ellen.
I whant to thank you for your videos. I love it. You always shears with us your recipes and measurements. ❤
I also whant to say how beautiful , kind and intelligent you are❤. And it's a big pleasure to hear you and learn from you! 🎉
Sorry for my english. Hi from Israel.
Great test! Thank you, for that!❤
ОтветитьThat was a great comparison, thank you!
ОтветитьMe encanta gracias lo voy hacer 👌🏼
ОтветитьBe safe in these storms!!!
ОтветитьThank you for this side by side comparison I made soap using lard and tallow but didn't think to compare and now is no need to 😄 I do love them both ... You said in the video that you like to add your fragrance at 5% of the total amount of soap and I will be curious if you do the same with essential oils? Thank you!
ОтветитьExcellent Video! i was interested in using tallow for a shampoo bar & wanted to actually see it in use. Almost every soap making video ends with just cutting the soap so its nice to see the soap in action!
ОтветитьI love watching your videos and can honestly say I learn something new every time! Thank you for being so open and willing to share your recipes. I make both soaps and candles and the soapers are so much more open and willing to share than the chandlers....sorry to say, but true. I can't wait to try the Lard recipe. My current recipe for soap making is way, too expensive b/c of the economy and I was sweating bullets trying to figure out what my new recipe should be. Problem solved, thanks again. 👍
Ответить(Note for those with sensitive skin or eczema)
Thank you Ellen for the recipe, and I have a note that I hope will be accepted
Please note this in your upcoming videos
An increase in the percentage of coconut oil will dry the skin
What do you use for a cooler on the top? I’m confused on that.
ОтветитьThank you for showing me the water in the mould method. I know it seems no brainer, but i never thought of that & i appreciated the tip as i was struggling to get my measurements right❤
ОтветитьI was hoping is was just lard with no other oils.
ОтветитьA side note. If you fill your mold to your desired amount, the grams of water you add is equal to the milliliters of water. 1 gram water = 1 ml of water. If you calculate 65% of that, you will be real close to the perfect amount of your fat addition. It will be a little less since oil weighs less than water.
ОтветитьI use castor oil to increase lather, but after watching this video I may swap sugar instead of castor oil. Having said that, I'm thinking of using sorbitol in place of plain sugar. What's your opinion on that?
ОтветитьThank you ❤
ОтветитьI absolutely LOVE your personality & teaching style! It's been 19 yrs since I've done color in Crockpot Hot Process soaps. Can you pls do a video specific to which types of color works best and how to use them, specifically in regards to after-the-cook hot process?😓 Pls help!
ОтветитьHave you tried (can it even be done) making a soap with Tallow and Lard plus the other oils and ingredients? It seems like that would give you the best of both worlds. Thank you for sharing this.
ОтветитьI guess al will be good
ОтветитьI found this interesting, I am gathering the materials I need to make shampoo bars. I had been saving tallow for lotions but I am not yet 100% impressed w the lotion, it is too runny. But it does have a nice feel on the skin, and absorbs nicely. I have some beeswax that I may use to firm it up some. However I have about 32 ounces of beautiful tallow left. My biggest concern is I want them to lather nicely.
