sadly in uk, isopropol alcahol is not available over the counter anywhere, or even pharmacists do not sell due to uk laws, preventing this no even pharmacist stock it, to expensive to buy online, these chemicals even distilled water is not available in shops, or pharmacists which is silly, shops only sell de-ionised water, we are limited in the uk, for most of these chemicals you are using.

I stopped watching as soon isopropyl alcohol came up in the ingredients list. You should NEVER use iso on your records. Never.

I came here hoping to find an iso -free solution. Disappointed.

Won't the alcohol damage the record? Will this formula work as good as those being sold?

Good one but just put a few drops of Kodak photo flow with your solution

What is you opinion on using a rinsing agent in the solution? I've seen a few homebrews that use a drop. What exactly does that do?

I use a similar solution in my "Spin Clean" record cleaner.
I use only Dawn dish detergent as it is biodegradable and should completely come off your record after cleaning.

For the process:

1. I use a record brush to remove the dust and dirt. I go over the surface off the record several times to get off as much as I can.

2. I put the record in my spin clean and give it several spins with a mixture of alcohol, distilled water, and dawn dish soap.

3. I dry the record with a microfiber towel. (The cheap ones you can get at dollar stores for drying your car)

4. I spray it with straight alcohol and dry it off.

Step 1 seems to get rid of the dirt stuck deep in the record groves. Step 2 cleans the surface off the record and remove any caked on grime.

I didn't spray the record with alcohol until recently. (step 3) I have found that this step greatly reduces surface noise when playing.

Hope this helps.

So how do you actually clean it step-by-step? First you spray the cleaning fluid all over one side, then what?
Wait a while, then spray the distilled water and finally wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth or something?

I do similar only I use 3 parts Dis Water and 1 part alcohol. and a couple drops of detergent.

I have heard that a couple drops of dishwasher spot remover can be used as a flow agent although I have not yet tried it.

I don't use a spay bottle just put some on a microfiber towel. I'm interested in others formulas as well.
