My "father figure" played this song to me and his son we were in like 3rd grade we used to jam to it. Just happened to see a post on X from morbid knowledge about the wreck. I havent heard this song in 35 years. I miss you Mr. Neff. Tragic story and I'm happy to know the royalties from this song went to the families of the crew.
ОтветитьIn memory of A beautiful Friend Dedicated Friends of the Library Now in the Northen Lights Exploring the Stars Checking everyone out Till we Meet again
ОтветитьCame here from Twitter. My teacher played this song for our class in 1979 when I was in the 3rd grade. I've never forgotten how sad it made feel for the children of the 29 men!
ОтветитьA great singer and human RIP
ОтветитьThis is beyond masterpiece.
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful song. As a Detroiter, it's interesting how he pronounces it as De-troy-it
ОтветитьGreat folk art singer Bob Dylan said the best. Got to believe a legend.
ОтветитьMysterious ship wreck ever, all 29 crew members died, not a single body was ever recovered.

-Bob Dylan, who wasn't exactly a slouch when it came to song writing.
Can't get enough of listening to this haunting masterpiece of a ballad
ОтветитьHappy 85th birthday, Gordon. I hope that the Gails of November aren’t too rough for you and the crew members in heaven ❤️

ОтветитьThe legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too
T'was the witch of November come stealin'
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashin'
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'
"Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"
At seven PM, a main hatchway caved in, he said
"Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the maritime sailors' cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
very good song! I only heard this 1 week ago even tho this came out in 1976

ОтветитьGordon Lightfoot
ОтветитьRest in peace to one of the greatest musicians and storytellers ever born into this world, and, now that he has left this world, Captain McSorley and his brave sailors can personally thank Gordon for never letting them or their story be forgotten.

ОтветитьRest in peace to the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald, and to Gordon.
ОтветитьMeg's hair
ОтветитьWe lived up on Lake Erie and watched the Ore boats. I had probably seen the Edmund Fitzgerald although I don't remember it, I do remember the day it went down but they announced it on the radio. I think everybody knew that all was lost. I've been to the memorial.
ОтветитьIn the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost !
ОтветитьGordon light made a beautiful song in memory of them, it’s a shame to think they had to have this happen the thwm in order for this song to come out, but I will say I’m sorry they had to pass away
ОтветитьF**king MASTERPIECE
ОтветитьRest in peace Gordon lightfoot. ( November 17,1938 - May 01,2023)
ОтветитьRIP 29 souls remembered Nov. 10, 2023 never forgotten
ОтветитьIt's now 48 year's and a day since the last time anyone ever saw the crew of The Edmund Fitzgerald.
Soon, we'll recognize the 50 year mark, never will it be a celebration by any means.
But in a way we can all celebrate the fact that Gordon with his song allowed the crew to be forever honored and remembered and that's a gift that few men will ever receive.
RIP to all of those brave mariners and the man who reminds us through his song their sacrifices.
Am I the only one here because of a TikTok video? 😂
ОтветитьSo moody dark and brilliant.
