In this video, I demonstrate how to weld a permanent bracelet, with beads, using wire.

It took me a number of years of trial and error to finally figure this out! Most of my failures resulted in unsecure connection, loop blowing out (no connection at all), and when I was able to get a connection, the whole loop would break off from the wire because it had weakened from the weld.

The secret to successfully welding thin wire comes down to these essential steps:
1. Use flush cutters, so that the end of the wire is flush, and not coming to a point - you need this for maximum contact of the metal surfaces.
2. This point is crucial! When making the loop, move the end of the wire halfway (actually 45% - just slightly short of being exactly in the middle of being on top) on top of the shaft. Then using chain nose (flat) pliers, clamp down so that the end grinds into place. In doing this, you are forcing the end of the wire down, while touching. This will ensure there is maximum contact between the end of the wire and the shaft. And by squeezing them together, you minimize the gap created by the rounded of the shaft, and the gap is filled with metal.
3. When welding, have the electrode close to the seam, but leaning more towards the circle part (the end of the wire). The tip of the electrode should point towards the shaft. The goal here is, when the weld happens, the molten metal pushes towards the shaft. This ensures that the shaft is not weakened (thinned) during the process of welding.

It takes a few tries in the beginning, especially when you are following written instructions, and my filming has limited magnification. However, once you are able to follow the above steps and understand the essential principles, you are able to have consistent and successful welds using fine wire.
