The ETFs are not in-kind redemption: You can't convert your shares to actual Bitcoin. This means that, though the ETFs seem to be buying Bitcoin to back your share purchase, they don't seem to be selling those Bitcoin. Which means, since you aren't getting actual Bitcoin when you sell the shares, the ETF is keeping the Bitcoin. Think about that for a minute and how this whole ETF thing (in which I participate) is letting these funds build up huge EXTRA positions in Bitcoin, owned by the fund, not the participants. I could be wrong about them not selling but as we know, no outflows.

What is different about power-law models (and there are thousands of them in nature), is that, no matter the size or sign of the perturbation (ETF issuance, Mt Gox failure, FTX collapse, Saylor pump, Trump pump, Chicxulub impact, etc.), after a few cycles (4 year cycles in the case of bitcoin), the values will revert to within a standard deviation or two of the mean. Power-law phenomena are anti-fragile in this regard… much more so than exponential or linear phenomena.

This behavior has happened over 4-1/2 cycles and over seven orders of magnitude value increase.

This power-law behavior means that if there’s a 1,000x jump tomorrow, after eight to twelve years, bitcoin price will revert to the power law mean. Yeah, it’s a freakin’ long time, so change your time preference!

Why am I so confident in this? Because phenomena which behave according to a power law…

1. Show up in nature - the orbital tracks and periods of planets around our sun behave with high correlation to a power law and have done so for billions of years.

2. Attributes of complex power-law systems in nature (planetary movements, animal metabolic rates and hundreds more) have a couple things in common - limited or no central control and feedback systems that allow adaptation. In Bitcoin’s case, the adaptive mechanism is its difficulty adjustment.

Seek out a physicist, math guy or chaos guy - someone who knows chaos theory and its application. Read Benoit Mandelbrot’s “The Misbehavior of Markets”. Mandelbrot discovered and named “fractals”. A fractal is self-similar scaling across several orders of magnitude - power-law in 2-dimensions. Read Geoffrey West’s “Scale”. Read Elliot’s “The Wave Principles”. They’ve convinced me that bitcoin is a complex system that exhibits power law attributes and behaviors.

You’re a very smart guy. I don’t think you’re lazy or you would not have done the proof of work to get this far in bitcoin. So, do the PoW on power law.

What you’ll discover is that, unperturbed, BTC price will increase at less than exponential rates. But while exponentially increasing phenomena like equity prices are something to stare at, 99% of these companies will have a life less than 100 years. Power law phenomena, on the other hand persist for thousands to billions of years. This is one promise of bitcoin. Once it’s survived its first few cycles, the chance that it’ll be destroyed by man grows less and less over time.

I’ll continue to make my day-to day buys (no sells) based upon price dips and onchain analysis. But as far as long-term commitment adjustments, power-law has convinced me to substantially increase the rate at which I transfer my net assets from fiat to bitcoin.

BTW, no other asset or asset class I’ve plotted exhibits power-law behavior. And I’ve plotted lots. S#%tcoins are especially chaotic - not linear, not exponential, not power-law. Of course they’re not - almost all of them are centrally controlled by humans.
