Her performance of this part of her repertoire is absolutely wonderful. I'm going to go ahead and put Alena Baeve into the very top league of violin players, certainly deserving to play on a Stradivarius. A Strad would be the only way for her to improve on this! And here I thought Perlman's performance could not be improved. To say who is better is to entirely miss the point. However she is by now in the same league as the very finest who have or had this as part of their repertoire. I'm going to listen to this repeatedly.

Certainly fine playing here. It is heart warming to know that a masterpiece from another century not only survives, but does very well indeed with modern audiences. I think a famous critic savaged this piece at its premiere, but it has outlived its critics.
