The book was so great. Why do they have to ruin a great story. It started with the shining. Both books are fantastic. But the movies not worth watching.

While I didn't hate this movie as a whole (I thought it was fine), I hate that they used dialogue from the book The Shining which was between Jack and Dan for Dan and Aubrey (the false face dialogue). I think they could've given Aubra her own lines and had the same feel as an homage to the book.

King keeps trying to kill the Overlook Hotel, but Kubrick still has the last laugh. After all, it's Kubrick's hotel that's burned down.

Seeing Wendy again pulled my heart strings it’s as if it’s been moving in real time and the last time we all saw her was 1980 now 2019. Very nice touch. Seeing the overlook hotel again took me right back to being 9/10 years old watching this and experiencing the overlook for the first time.

In Flanagan’s work, the house always wins in the end. But I think they should have stuck to the novel’s ending for Danny. It doesn’t make any sense why he stays other than to be the martyr, which isn’t needed for this film.

I like Flanagan’s work but no matter how you slice it the film is terrible. I think folks are too invested in stroking their own egos to admit the film is at best mid.

In my personal fan theory analysis I believe the Overlook Hotel itself was built on a Thinny. A dimensional portal described in the Dark Tower series as a tear over the Earth in appearance and a portal in which living mortal beings, creatures or spirits can cross over into other dimensions and worlds. I think this is where the Manager demon originated to cross over into our world on Earth and used the Thinny to possess the entire Overlook Hotel's building structure and location. The Management caused all the murders, suicides and other deaths in the Hotel's history along with the corruption of former owner Horace Derwent, who was a corrupt billionaire playboy, entrepreneur and accountant with mafia ties. As a ghost Derwent was the Hotel's second in command of its imprisoned human ghosts of the Hotel's dead former guests and staff, demons and poltergeists. Derwent allowed multiple gangland hits to happen under his ownership and after when he sold the Hotel to California business investors. But ran the Overlook Hotel behind the scenes. The Hotel and its ghosts, demons and the needed to possess Danny's telepathic power to break free and expand the Hotel's sentient demonic supernatural force beyond the grounds of the Overlook Hotel. And become a Godlike entity.

Kubrick's classic film adaption of the Shining was its own classic horror gem but in the end the Overlook Hotel didn't burn down as it did in the novel. It was abandoned and left rot but left standing. The Overlook Hotel burning down here in its sequel was faithful to the book ending.

Love the combination of picking up where the movie left off and ending how the original Shining Novel ended. It was the perfect combination of the 2 where as in the novel it’s Jack who burned down the Overlook the same way Danny here did.
