Hmm.. I'd still give fighter of the year to Pereira due to the circumstances of his fights and coming on short notice. To do what he did in a 6 month span is insane. I agree that a Volk and Halloway are bigger names then Hill, Jiri and Roundtree resume wise but at the same time Hill and Jiri were still former champions and no one as ever put them away as easily standing as Alex did. And the Roundtree fight showed his ability to stay composed and make adjustments when under pressure in the fire. Very rarely do you see a guy come back like that stand up wise. It's usually a different strategy implement like takedowns when they start losing or getting flustered on the feet.

Id say he was fighter of the year IF he beat both guys in there prime but both volk and max after they already got smoked by ppl. Volk just lost and got tkod. And max has been beat a few times in the last few years. If ilia beat volk like 2 or 3 years ago sure. And if ilia beat max like 4 or 5 years ago them sure. But both volk and max are still "younger" but that just meams age. That doesmt mean they havent went thru the best part of there careers. Both were soooooo much better like 2-5 years ago. Ilia is the best featherweight rn but for sure not of all time. Id say hes not even close really. Volk, max, aldo, connor are all heads and heels above ilia for all time. I wouldnt even say ilia is fighter of the year because alex is doimg the same tbing but at light heavy weight which means ALOTTT

Ilia ko'd Volk after the Islam ko though idk for me that kinda takes away from it. It would have been much more impressive had Ilia been the first to ko Volk but for all we know Volk's chin might just be cooked now. Alex still foty for me Ilia is 2nd though Alex just saved multiple cards from flopping there's something to that I don't think any other fighter could have stepped in his shoes and done what he did to save those ppv's.
