How to Choose a Sofa

I'm having the hardest time finding a good comfortable couch! Please do an update video❤ its honestly more than i can handle, like do i want armrests? Removable back cushions? Fabric or leather? Wood or metal legs? Modern or traditional? And dont even get me started on colors! Its honestly so much.

Nick, good recommendations, thank you! Would you also include sofa recommendations that are practical for all ages? Not only these very low height seating? Higher seating, such as 19"-20" from the ground?

I know this is an older video, but can you please do this for other furniture? I'm thinking especially of dining room tables...

My couch is from Discount Furniture. (A local distributor that uses Ashley as their supplier.) I periodically have to go through and patch spots my cat did a number on but I try to do it symmetrically so it fits with the design. The springs busted on one side so I reenforced them by linking them with 550 cord with synch knots and cranking down on them really hard before locking them in. Then I cut out a long sheet of 1/4 inch plywood to help evenly distribute weight in an effort to prevent the same thing from occurring. Over time my cushions lacked their original "plumpness" so I recently purchased 1 inch cushion foam and filled them back again adding an additional piece to the side that sunk in to restore it to a straight line. A couple of the seams are beginning to come loose on the cushions but not to worry I have a Singer sewing machine (I'm not sponsored by Singer either but I really like their machines). One day soon I'll probably be taking the foam out of those cushions and closing the spread. Heck I might give all the cushions a good once over as a preventative measure. I really like the look of this couch.

When my fiance and I were looking for a sofa recently, the factors we were looking for were 1. comfort (proportioned to fit us) and 2. resistance to cat scratches. We ended up getting a dark brown leather La-Z-Boy reclining sofa-- what Nick would probably call a marshmallow sofa. It may not look sexy, but I bet it'll be good for cuddling and watching movies.

I have a couch that is like the Gather couch. Because I usually live in small spaces it does 3 things. First, it is a couch. Second, it’s a pull out bed and third there is storage in the chaise part. I’m needing a new couch again. Your ideas on how to choose a sofa really helped.

I want to replace my couch so bad, but am waiting til we buy a place. My current couch was an upgrade from my (admittedly comfy) Big Lots couch. But it was in that $400-600 range. The cushions have held up great, BUT… it’s incredibly hard to clean, and our cats have destroyed it.

I’m constantly on a hunt for a couch that can hold up to cat claws and vomit (so, easy to clean and stain-proof) while still being well-designed and comfortable. (And I’d also like it to be higher up from the floor so I can clean under it easily instead of pretending there aren’t dust bunnies made of cat hair under there.)

Went to Article and ordered a couch, chair, ottoman,coffee table and two end tables. I think I will like much better. I used your link for the sofa. Hope you make a few cents!

What do yutin of Ikea's Kivik sofa? Wayfair has a very similar one too.

Make sure it is well made, super comfortable, and a neutral color. You can have a slightly funky shape, if you love it. The color trends come and go. Neutrals are fantastic. Paint is cheap, change wall colors, not couches!

I have a huge fireplace one wall, a large TV on another wall, very large windows on two walls. A large bookshelf opposite the fireplace. On the same wall as the tv is large glass doors. I never know how to arrange my furniture. HELP ME!! PLZZZ

Love your videos. However I am a bit confused. All designers say including yourself, don't push the furniture up against the wall. However every couch that you're showing in this video is pushed up against the wall, as well as the couch you are sitting on as you film this video. What's up with that.😊

WHats your take on Natuzzis leather sofas? I find them astounding and GORGEOUS. Fritz hansens pk31 is also a gorgeous pick although extremely expensive. In regards to Natuzzi the Jeremy 2987 is gorgeous aswell.

Get gifted a friend's sofa when she moved and be happy that it's a beautiful thing and you don't have to spend money now.

after having an issue with my neck, I need a couch with a higher back...

i have twins and our fabric sofa has practically been destroyed with stains and stitching coming undone. It looks pretty bad. So I'm thinking that leather would be more suitable and easy to clean. But then i think of Leather couches that are a few years old and the pillows or seating completely falls flat and it feels like you're sitting on a deflated bean bag. Any suggestions?

I love the majority of these sofas however I’m missing the multifunctional aspect of them. I’m sort of a minimalist myself and also have a smaller apartment so I’m looking for a couch that looks chic but can also be used to store stuff and turned into a guest bed if needed. I like when a sofa has legs and some space under it so I was trying to find one with these qualities but it appears to be very hard. It seems like you can either have design or (multi)functionality but not both at the same time🥲
