You know what's even better than this thing? :)
Asus Rog Ally
I got mine, added a 1TB SD for retro games and have same disk space for anything that needs some speed.
Anything from the beginning of games industry up to PS4 runs on the Ally Rog fine.

For computer dummies like me, you skipped a whole lot of set-up. You plugged in the mini PC and then suddenly had your "coin-ops build" on a hard drive. Well, how did you get that? Where did you get it from? Are there different versions? Why did you choose that particular one?

But this mini PC consoles are very expensive compared to other things. Can you provide me a coinops for directly install on a 3,5 Inch harddrive?

Awesome build, I think they only missed Citra for whatever reason, the old not running on vulkan has been solved, so hopefully it will be included later.

I built both my "cabinets" from scratch. I can't imagine why anyone would do it any differently. I bought two surplus office desktops for about $50 each. I put about $100 in between them, installing max memory, low level gpu's and ssd's on each. I built two arcade sticks out of old dining room chair seats and DIY parts off amazon (I also bought a Faucetwo, but that's a different story). I downloaded all the games I was looking for, and used Batocera to host my rooms. I wrote scripts to filter my romsets until I had exactly what I wanted. Then I went through each and every game and made sure it had intuitive key mapping. So I have a retro arcade system with about 7500 of the very best games, each one promising an amazing time. I also have a full "Sound Voltex" (USC) system right next to it. I love what I built, and can't imagine just buying a hard drive.

I'm all for this over some cheap number off of amazon or wish. There's some real fun to be had with buying an old laptop with a busted top screen and just wiping the drives and installing Recalbox and stuff like that as well. Doing the set up is perhaps not super simple but definitely not harder than that you can google your way through it. I get it though, this is for people who want everything set up and ready to go but you can really do a lot with old hardware and if you have a crummy laptop from 14 years ago it can definitely play up to and usually including N64 games and if you're buying what is essentially a broken outdated laptop you can usually get them for peanuts.

I made a project like that just a month or two ago and the laptop I used cost me 10 dollars and without much tweaking of any sort I could fit the entire NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC and GBA library on there (and more) and even add some playstation games on top. Recalbox which is the Linux front end I chose for it recognizes the usual controllers people tend to use and the lap top had bluetooth so I can play with dualshock 4 wirelessly. It runs from a USB stick which is pretty neat but I had a very small SSD that I cloned the stick over to and it boots much faster. In total I think I paid 14 bucks for the whole thing and I knew nothing about Linux, emulation or hardware coming into it. It was a lot of fun :)

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that you don't even need an expensive mini-PC to make an emulation machine if you aren't lusting after the most recent generations of games.

That's an "x-arcade" stick, the best you can find for MAME, quite hard to program but once done you're fine. Though I've switched to an original arcade cabinet from 1991. Only that brings back the "magic" from the early days.
