Thank you
ОтветитьHi Paul, thanks for such an informative video, idk if you can help me get an answer to my question, does this still work in 2023, cause I been a victim of a private seller who sold me a cat S vehicle and just disappeared, I would like to know does the vehicle needs to go for an inspection in 2023 to put it back on the road, thanks in advance
ОтветитьHi Paul, really informative video! Sorry if you've mentioned this in another video, but I had a few questions. If I purchase a Cat N vehicle, as you mentioned it cannot be driven until it is repaired... so my first question is how do you get it to the body repair centre? Would this need to be organised by the company you purchase the car from or you just need to organise your own car transporter? Second question is, can you tax and insure the vehicle using the V62 application? On the Gov Tax website it states "You can tax your vehicle without a vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) using a V5C , V62 application, green ‘new keeper’ slip.".
ОтветитьI'm getting a cat n tomorrow very minor damage it still has mot till September as far as i can see i need to apply for a new v5 and pay for it can i drive the car straight away?
ОтветитьVery informative thank you
ОтветитьWhat’s you do do about the bit where is asks you for previous postcode ?
ОтветитьSomeone crashed into me and my car is Cat N, I've bought it back and currently repairing it myself. Will I have to re apply for a v5 or do I just need an MOT? Thanks
ОтветитьHi Paul I have bought a cat N motorcycle with no V5 only to find that it had been scrapped can you tell me how to put it back on the road please?
The bike only has some broken plastics.
When an S category car is re-registered with DVLA, do they re-use the original number plate, issue an age-related number plate or issue a Q plate? What is putting me off buying an S cat which has not yet been repaired is that I really don't want the car to be re-registered with a Q plate. DVLA state that any vehicle with a Q plate must show the Q plate - a private plate or any other plate cannot be allocated to the vehicle. Does the re-registered vehicle have to have a Q plate?
ОтветитьThis video is amazing. EXACTLY the information I was looking for. Good start to me difficult day . Thanks
ОтветитьHi Paul thanks for this video has helped me out so much liked and subbed
ОтветитьHi thank you for this video! I am going through this now, my car has been categorised as N. I did buy back my vehicle, paid retention fees. Do I need to send off any paperwork to DVLA?
ОтветитьHi Paul! If it takes six weeks for v5 to come through the post. So it can’t be on the road till I get the v5 to tax it? So if I get the car back e.g today and fix today I need to wait six weeks to get it on the road? Thanks
ОтветитьGreat Video Paul, can I ask if you have any more information or perhaps a video on the process of registering a cat x or cat u vehicle or would it be the same V62 from as used for cat s and cat n. Thanks!
ОтветитьIs CAT N recorded on the new V5 - if its not, are you required to tell the new purchaser if you sell , the car ?
ОтветитьCan you re asses damage to cat S from cat B, where previously insurance assesor been for unknown reasons cated B, where its not that bad to fix and put to cat s ?
ОтветитьHi Paul, and thank you! Thank you for explain those things difficult to find the answer.
But I have a question, I bought a car S car from an auction, now is taxed and has a valid MOT until 2023, but when I tried to send the V62 in the post office (selecting the option to pay 25£) the system didn’t allow it. So I called DVLA and they said that first I need to SORN the vehicle and then make the v62. Is that all right? Should I worry? What could you recommend me?
And again thank you a lot for the help for all of us in similar situations!
very helpful !
ОтветитьThank you for the very good explanation 👏 ❤️
ОтветитьDo I allow to send v62 form prior to the repair or only after repairs are done ? Thank you
ОтветитьHi just need to ask you I just bought cat s car after repair can I just insured the car and start driving while I’m waiting for new log book
ОтветитьReally useful video from Paul, spells out in simple language the pitfalls and highlights the very real importance of reading all small print. Not saying Coparts or another company does this but some company's terms & conditions are intended to be so long and complex that you never read them all and then hidden in all the guff are a couple of really important clauses that could cost you a fortune.
Ответитьthank you your video was a great help.
ОтветитьVery very informative video subscribe to you I’m about to buy a Mercedes and it’s categorised as S from a dealership in Birmingham my problem is I’m literally buying it online ?
ОтветитьHiya, I had a crash with my car by someone else driving it and they went through their insurance to cover the cost of damage. Now I choosed the option of retaining the "salvage" and they categorised my car as S and they will send an engineer to check. But only the door of the car is adamaged and the car is fine! Now the insurance company is telling me that if I scrap v5 and apply to V62 then I can use the car. Is this that simple??? Or is the insurance company is keeping me in dark??
ОтветитьThankyou for this best explained video.i bought a car cat N wrighten off by insurance hase been repaired I good looking condition.i recive the loogbook I insured the car as normal .this what I don't know should I tell the insurance is N category ore do they know automatically.
ОтветитьHi Paul. Thanks for such a straighforward and comprehensive explaination of how to re-register written off vehicles! Really REALLY helpful... thought the history of the system would be boring and superfluous but ACTUALLY very useful to know how and why the system has changed.. for the better. Recently suffered a rear end shunt in my Toyota Hiace van.... the other driver admitted full responsibility (a sadly unusual situation these days according to my insurance broker)and I have dealt with the whole thing through his insurance rather than mine. The van was deemed uneconomical to repair despite being completely roadworthy (sailed through new MOT last week) and is now a cat S due to the rear box section of the chassis being slightly bent. I have kept it on the road and will get body repaired.. seems I fall slightly between the cracks here as the 3rd party insurers have no legal claim on the van... so I still own it and am not buying it from anyone?... but presume the V62 route will be the most appropriate option.
ОтветитьCategory S car. Been repaired and MOT’d. Not sent the V62 off yet. Is it legal to drive it before my V62 comes back?
ОтветитьCheers Paul good info
ОтветитьHi, We were in a non-fault accident and the 3rd party classified it as a Cat N so easily fixable. Have notified the insurance company but I am confused if we also need to inform the DVLA and if so, does it show on the V5 and is there a fee due to the DVLA of £25
ОтветитьHi I’m interested in a car but there’s something putting me off, so this seller has bought a car off co part and he never bothered to do the v5 (it’s a cat S) so when I go to apply for the v5 to re register the car does my car need to have another MOT?
Ответитьhi if you buy a cat n car do can it retain its mot from before the accident or will it have to have a new one to go back on the road
Ответитьthanks so much for that its not that clear on the DVSA site. i have a private number on my TVR S3 which is just a cat s, can i keep the reg plate on the car or does it come with an age related number when re-registered? thanks so much for the info! Rob
ОтветитьVery helpfull video, thank You
ОтветитьExcellent video. Looking to buy a Cat S kit car and negotiating the DVLA website is impossible. No Fee for a new V5 on a Cat S? Excellent news. Gx
ОтветитьI have a category s Wright off and my council tells me that I have to have a certificate of its safety to use as a Taxi, and I’ve spent hours going from pillar to post.
PLEASE HELP…
I know this is a bit old now but thanks for the very clear explanation as I've not done anything like this for over 20 years.
ОтветитьHi Paul, Well impressed with your video and excellent presentation of the information. I do have one question I have recently knowingly bought a CAT s car at auction, on inspection of the vehicle upon receipt my belief is the vehicle was incorrectly classed as CAT S and should be Cat N as the only damage was done to the tow bar ( on receipt the plastic bumper was bent where the tow ball had come into contac with it. Remove tow bar Pour hot water onto the bumper out pops the dent! Clearly the assessor carrying out the inspection did not remove the bumper inorder to asses the possible damage. You cannot see the geometry of the rear legs without doing so. My question therefore is can one seek to have the category changed to N if it clearly was incorrectly marked as S? (Skoda Yeti 2010)
ОтветитьHi to tax with only a V62 you need mot do you need insurance also to tax thinking of buying a cat N
ОтветитьHi, I bought a category s car. I have repaired it. Its showing it has road tax on car. I dont have log book. I want to apply for log book and tax the car immediately. Do you know the procedure pls
ОтветитьThank you ....very informative and helpful!
ОтветитьHi Paul,
Thanks a lot for the very informative video as DVLA's site wont supply many of these details.
Could you please let me know whether the new V5 for a Cat N car ( after applying with V62 form ) would come with your name as a Registered keeper ? This will obviously increase the number of previous keepers.
Kind regards
I’m looking to buy 2010 3 series cat C by looks the left side door has taken big punch other that its all good but how do I register it on the road again what test does it need VIC? Or a mot how does it work
ОтветитьWhat about if your car is cat n assessed by the insurers but make a claim , the insurers pay up , but you keep the car . Do you or the insurers have to tell the Dvla ? If not how does any buyer of that car know it’s cat N unless you tell them ?
ОтветитьThat hasnt stopped thieves at all, because they will steal a merc or a landcruiser and it will be in a container within a couple of hours destined for somewhere on the Barbary Coast
ОтветитьThank you Paul for opening my eyes on these vehicle categories. I think that the category X should be recorded to DVLA by the police and marked on the V5. If it has structural damage then it should be marked as SX. Too many people will not lose sleep by selling a vehicle that is known to be cat X (even with structural damage) but unrecorded to a customer who are spending their life savings to buy the best car they can afford.
That stinks because it protects the rich (mostly insurance companies) knowing the loopholes.
Personally, I don't mind buying a cat S or cat N if it is repaired professionally but cat X is too much of a grey area like you said. It would be nice if this grey area is cleaned up for the customer so we all know where we stand.
Very helpful! Thanks a bunch.
ОтветитьOn question 5 they ask you about the previous register post code what you have to put in there please help?
ОтветитьHi Paul, thanks for the information
My question is my car is Cat S, so in this case do l put it back on the road before repairing it?
