Hopefully one day, if George ever finishes the novels, we can get a remake of this terrific story the way it should be.

They completely butchered him. Varys never wouldve been so slopply as he was the last season. Complete character assassination. Same with Jaime, Petyr and Tyrion. And Jon. I mean I could probably go on.

The show literally stopped being Game of Thrones after season 4, all the plotting, scheming and political conflicts (you know, the actual game of thrones) get thrown out of the window because we know D&D weren't smart enough to continue these storylines. Varys, Littlefinger and Tyrion were completely butchered and dumbed down, I'm so glad my boy Tywin was killed at the end of ASOS otherwise he would've been a victim of the same fate.

I agree the last two seasons felt rushed. And I agree that changing major plot points for the television show was the wrong choice. I feel a dishonor was done to characters who were set up and developed extremely well and then killed off on whims just because the writers felt someone needed to die. That never serves the story and I see a lot of shows fall into that trap these days.

If D&D were planning on leaving the show to do something else, why not just hand it off to people who wanted to continue the series rather than rushing the ending? 😰

A series I loved, a series I looked forward to introducing my kids to when they are adults, but it is forever blacklisted in my household along with trash like Disney Star Wars and Amazon LoTR. A complete shame that such great works of art are allowed to fall into incompetent hands.

They should have had Lord Varys flip Daenerys Targaryen double 🐦's before she said "Dracarys!"

What I think was the biggest problem was that D&D got an offer to do star wars or whatever so they finished up as fast as possible while HBO were willing to give them 10 seasons if needed.

He's right, the show stopped feeling "organic" in the sense of capturing the reaction of actions and consequences throughout the later parts of the series.

I would go by GRR Martins reasoning for character deaths. Like Robb stark being naive.

Littlefinger was smart, but not the only smart man and he overestimated his power over Sansa.

But Tyrion and Varys somehow dropped by 40IQ points for no reason at the end.

On purpose or not, I think George R. Martin got to show us who really made the show great, and once his writing was absent, D and D obviously did not deserve the heaps of praise they got for earlier seasons. That and the new series let us all know it was never D and D, it was George's talent all along, and part of me is glad they got exposed as morons.

Varys was such a great character and he was too cunning and stealthy to have ever gotten roasted by a dragon - that ending for him was ludicrous. You can absolutely feel for the actors on this show, who spent many years building these characters into something interesting and beloved by audiences, only to have it hacked up at the end to rush the ending. My issue was that the ending had established characters start behaving opposite to what and who they were during the whole series.

The BLAME is ENTIRELY on GEORGE R. R. MARTIN! He’s had years to finish the books and never did. Even if he did consult on how he thinks it should end regardless of any physical material, how much context can you have to build off that? But I do also acknowledge that even if if George did finish the books, suits and or D&D would’ve punted it the same even still. But nobody is talking about George and they definitely should. I can’t in good conscious recommend the show to anyone purely due to the let down of of the last few seasons. I want so much to rewatch but how can I when I know that much time investment and emotional build up will result in the biggest train wreck to hit the small screen.

Also House of the Dragon is pretty awful… Except for Matt Smith’s Oscar winning performance riding the dragon screaming oh so eloquently, “WHERE ARE YOU? WHERE ARE YOU?” Brilliant writing 🙄

"That's been my feeling the last couple seaons, that my character became more peripheral, that they concentrated on others more. That's fine. It's the nature of a multi-character show."

Conleth is too kind, and is being too generous here. There are many multi-charactered shows that handle the story arcs of each character exceptionally well, which can be felt in the earlier seasons of GoT, while D&D still had George R.R Martin's exceptional writing to lean on. Once that ran out, they had nothing. Varys and so many other characters deserved so much better... D&D should've handed the reigns over to someone else if they didn't feel like seeing things through to the end.

I can completely empathise with the actors reactions over the last season. The show had been going down hill from season 5 onwards so I cant say I was surprised season 8 was a pile of hot garbage but I was extremely disappointed and let down. I can only imagine how everyone involved felt. Putting everything they had in to this show for it all to be dismantled by the two fuckwits in charge. I don't think anyone is in doubt where the issues lay. All of the actors and crew can hold their heads high knowing they did their absolute best with what they were given.

I think the final result was cool (not the show, but the final circumstances of all the characters and the world). The problem is how the narrative got to that point. The journey of the last two seasons wasn't done well. I could have been happy with the ending we got if the path there was better.

Varys was robbed. He blindly supported Targaryens ie the mad king. Westeros had peace under Robert and he still supported the ousted Targaryen siblings. He doesn't care about the realm he cared about Targaryen rule. Don't know if he was somehow Targaryen or he likes Targaryen magic because it defeats the magic he hates and that's what he refers to when he says he serves the "realm". His reasons needed to be explored and if he was going to turn on them we needed a personal reason as to why.
Also he should have defeated little finger somehow

In hindsight the series when watched a second time you understand varys's choice. If Dracarys is the word that was whispered in his ear that fateful night he was haunted by the discovery of its meaning. Scenes where he is lamenting while staring in the flames, and his overall machinations as well as his final choice to turn against danarys was his final flaw. If given the choice and his life spared he would've conspired in danys death regardless. All actors are saddened by their Final scenes, unless you are Harrison Ford in any of his franchises. Much love, great channel.

Every single part of this show beyond the source material was a failure. The last 3 Seasons were just a progressively more aggressive dive toward rock bottom. I'll never watch them again and Martin is incompetent, the Books won't be done until He dies and someone else can finish them- hopefully soon, I only have so much time left too and I want those damn books done. I do love the Series, but it's strange, I kind of hate the creators from start to finish- there is no other Franchise/Series/Universe that I feel this way about.
