For the composite question,
Couldn't we just work with the 3squared first?
3sqaured is the same as 9 to the 1st power. So we can just add the exponents 1 and 8 then multiply it by -2 right?
I calculated it and 9 to the -18 and 3 to the -36 equals the same thing.
So does that mean both methods are acceptable?

3^2 = 9^1 is how I did it...same result.

c'mon,,, (4x5)to the power of 3 is 20 to the power of 3 ...why would you do all this extra work for the same answer `?

i thought that if you had a negative exponent(lets say -2, it would become 1/a^2???
