"As Played on the Steamer Island Queen". This was Homer Denney's second rag, out of the eight or so he was known to have written, and is, in my opinion, one of his finest. Coney Island refers to an amusement park along the Ohio River just east of the city of Cincinnati, and the Island Queen transported people from downtown out to the park. Homer Denney played the piano and the calliope on board the steamer, including this and some of his other rags as part of the entertainment. This rag was published by Denney & Flanigan in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1906.
Many thanks to Mitchy for finding and suggesting this rare rag, which comes from the collection of Ragtime Dorian Henry. His upload of "The Coney Island Girl" is here: https://youtu.be/POGkfo6hfCw?si=pGW1I8OUvjse9L1x
