Another great explanation! I may be pulling this out of the air, but I think I remember reading that in mythology Unicorns can only be caught by people with a pure heart, if anyone else tries to catch them they instantly kill them which is why the Unicorn goes on a killing spree in the facility.

The Merman is one of my favorite all time favorite monsters.

One of things that all normally missing with this old gods that ruled earth before us and can destroy us is, why they don't rule now? Like did they fallen in sleep for being to old or something? Maybe there is some little bit of hope for some survivors, that will survive rampage before they become tired again or something. What to say, I am optimist.

As someone who Likes horror movies, but cant stand being scared without screaming a curse, so I watch these because they help me watch the movies better knowing whats happening and understanding.

I personally love movies with "ancient gods that are real and really REALLY REALLY scary", like lovecraftian stories.
It gives a "there's something else out there, something old and forgotten, yet powerful and dangerous" feeling.

James A. Janisse from Dead Meat did a Kill Count of this movie and he mentioned that this movie can canonically explain every horror movie made. This movie is great full of Easter eggs and references for horror fans to point out.

I hate Joss whedon and just about everything he does, so it pained me to admit that I liked this movie back when I watched it. What made it most memorable (at least for me) was how it subverted my expectations, having gone into it fully believing that it was just the typical "teens get violently slaughtered in the wilderness" type of movie as is initially implied in the beginning. Horror movies rarely seem to surprise me, yet this one did, and pleasantly so. Still hate Joss Whedon though.

I just watched this movie. It was fantastic. I really loved how the ritual sacrifice that goes on adheres to horror movie rules 😂 I'm upset that there can't be a sequel though. I would've loved to have seen some different creatures... Zombies are so common. Maybe a prequel???? Hollywood should ABSOLUTELY get on it!!!

I guess the ancient ones don't like the people working for them being the sacrifice because in someways Sitterson, Hadley, Lin, Truman, and the director sorta worked like the sacrifices needed. Sitterson and Hadley either working as the fool or the scholar, Truman being a guard is the athlete, Director ended up being the final girl aka virgin as she was the last of the facility to either live or die by her own actions, which unfortunately leaves Lin as the w-h-o-r-e despite her knowledge should qualify her as the scholar as neither Sitterson or Hadley seem to fit the male equivilant of one. Then again, Jules didn't start off as a dumb blonde w-h-o-r-e either. What was the director's words about Dana reaction to being the virgin: We work with what we can?

Ah yeah, the first Scream movie made it clear the final girl no longer has to be a virgin since Sidney and Billy had sex before the big reveal that Billy and Stu both were the ghostface killers.

What was silly is how stupid the scientist's gas affected Holden who is suppose to be the scholar. What is the point of the scholar if they have to also make the same stupid choices as the rest--including the fool who is suppose to be the most idiotic of the group (Marty only being an exception since he wasn't affected).
