Nothings wrong with that. They’re married with two kids. Debt like that holds the entire family down. Now if it were some guy she just started dating and she paid off his debt, that would be a whole different issue.

Amazing gift. Good for them. Makes me wonder though, a debt he thought was with him for life his wife managed to save enough in one year to pay it off.

That was the best gift any spouse can give. To invest in your spouse is to invest in yourself as you are a unit. Now they will both have good credit which means loan terms are more favorable etc. That's wonderful!
