Every time I am feeling a little disenfranchised with life, you make me realise how excited I should actually be for all the possibilities we have in this era. Thank you Sir.

Question for the group- who establishes what a “virtual” cloud cpu is? When I mess around with AWS it feels like they are selling the the same second hand xeon cores in my lab. With the advancements in cpu design, who adjusts the virtual cpus to match current technology.

If the market says a a virtual cpu can reach 3ghz, what can Arm do?

That thing's so insane I bet people who are crazy enough to run Crysis game on the 128 core Epyc CPU with software OpenGL renderer could potentially get decent framerate outta that. It's as powerful as decent mid-range video cards.

1.1GB Cache?? Forget it! Xeon Max offers something like 64 GB of HBM2 cache.

Incredibly cool processors and I think 128 cores are not the limit! I am sure that there are processors that most people do not have free access to. For example, some military technologies and servers.👍

If there is an opportunity to talk about future glass-based processors from Intel, I think this topic will be relevant for the next 10 years for inexpensive but powerful processors for home PCs

Note that Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 also have the same minimum memory requirements of 1 GiB for 32 bit version (and 2 GiB for 64 bit, and 4 GiB "recommended"). So it's L3 cache would be enough to meet Windows 10's RAM requirements too.

Can anyone tell me how to read the fabric frequency on Genoa (I am using centOS)? I watched some other video and found AMD Ryzen boosts fabric clock up to 2.32Ghz, Ryzen is based on Zen4 also. I am wondering how Epyic series scales the fabric clock to support high speed DDR5.

With X86 and ARM both accreting large SIMD instruction sets, the efficiency of the "glue" instructions becomes less relevant. For SIMD heavy apps, I wonder if there could be benefits to sacrificing IPC in the X86 instructions to reduce transistor count down to 386 level even, in order to pack more SIMD pipelines in for AI workloads.

Until they are cheaper than GPU cards, no one will buy them... 128 Cores ? who cares... you need a coal power plant to get it running and a lake of water to cool it.

If Sierra Forest can't consistently beat Bergamo then intel is way behind to the detriment of intel and consumers. They need to meaningfully compete too as in being able to actually make many of them and not just be halo parts, none of this low supply pseudo-paper launch nonsense like the glued chiller parts.

AVX10 doesn't fill me with confidence, it's basically a way for intel to tread water and downplay AVX512 given that they can't retcon it entirely as AMD has already taken the ball and ran with it. Making 512 bit ops optional is a terrible water-muddying move, by design and anti-consumer in its intent.

You know what would be a good idea , if you did server reviews from viewers where you hop onto a call and review their setup in terms of software and hardware, and do some quick takes on it. I'm sure many viewers would volunteer for a review to their benefit as well.

It would be a huge leap for us just mortal.

AMD and Intel server market is rapidly consolidating stay tuned for Server Today Sapphire Rapids, Ice, Genoa Milan, Rome supply data the enterprise market is relatively unaddressed at 28 cores and less and 20 cores and less and mid-size business, well, most of the server installed base is still standardized on Skylake and Cascade Lakes waiting for some other stable, validated platform produced in commodity volume. mb

For a Virtual host environement, this CPU doesn't make any sense. It will cost you fortune in VMWARE and Microsoft datacenter SA licences. You will have a very high density virtual host, which is a nightmare for maintenance and DRP.

at around 2.8 watts per core on average just imaging a desktop or laptop using a mixed chiplet design with full cache// wattage (like we currently have) and a another chiplet with a bunch of lower power/ cache cores.
16 core/ 32 thread limited cache 50 watt laptop cpu sounds nice or a 16 cored/ 32 thread desktop cpu with 64/96mb of cache another 16/32 core/ 32/64 thread limited cache ccx with current tech thats a 150 watt desktop cpu with 64/96 threads. sign me up
