my doc prescribed me Prenate DHA and
it has Folate
(as (6S)-N5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid calcium salt
(equivalent to 600 mcg of folic acid)
and folic acid, USP 400 mcg)† 1700 mg DFE

But its lacking the other ones , is this okay to take? is 1700mg DFE too much?

I am from Jamaica but currently living in America. In Jamaica you can get fresh fruits and Vegetables for a more affordable price too. Most underdeveloped country as you said is way better than America where a lot of things are concern. When i was pregnant with in first son i was in Jamaica comparing both pregnancies now that i am in American, the health care system was way better and was free of cost too

What if you are getting efficient nutrition from a healthy diet and then take supplements on top of that and it ends up getting toxic? I just wonder how important prenatals really are if you are getting efficient nutrition already. Just out of curiosity.

Hi Dr. Perez,
Is 3 months the minimum to start folic acid supplementation? I am in nursing school, last semester I had OB (my favorite 😊), and I think I read/heard that it’s beneficial to start 2 years before, but I honestly can’t remember and can’t find an answer online. Thank you and hope you’re well 🌷

Changing sea salt to ionized is not worth it. Just take an fast apsorbtion iodine supplement. But before listening to doctors on the internet. GET A BLOOD TEST DONE so you know your deficiencies in your current diet before taking random vitamin supplements.

Gotta love how obgyns are all about babies every day all day, but when it comes to hormones problems and have endometriosis they have no answer for you and look at you like they were just told to tell you the meaning of life. Let’s not forget that some of us hemorrhage on a regular basis and can’t get proper nutrition even in first world countries. I’m not pregnant and I need to take prenatals. No, not everyone in developed countries have access to fresh produce every day. People are poor and even homeless in the USA. I was homeless two times in my life.

Pregnant people is such an offensive sexist degrading term to use for expecting mothers. The term is expecting mothers, use both terms when applicable to be inclusive or don’t use either. Women still have rights to our gender identity. I’d like for people to transition out of patriarchy and misogyny. Im a women advocating for women’s rights so know people will bashed, but I’ll die on this hill, women still have rights

Misinformation. Telling pregnant women they will get all their nutrition from food is an old medical view that is not accurate. Medical doctors don't spend time learning nutrition and have no concept about this topic. How many pregnant women are even nutritionally adequate to begin with? How many moms are not eating a processed food diet? Where's the scientific mind here? To say that they probably don't need vitamin D supplements without even looking at their lab tests is negligent and sheer guessing. Considering that up to 75% of people across major population groups are all deficient in vitamin D, this attitude is simply harmful for moms and for their babies. Not impressed with this video at all.

I just found out I'm pregnant after 19 years I thought I couldn't get pregnant again. I have my first son and he is 19 now almost 20. Give birth at 2003. I was very sad but then after that I try to get pregnant again I couldn't get pregnant I have PCOS and they put me on vitamin to get pregnant but nothing. So I give up so about 2 days now I feel so weak n my body was changing missing my period so I have morning sickness so I decided to take 3 pregnancy test and all 3 is positive within second. I'm so happy. So I'm getting my first appointment with obgyn on Feb 3rd 2023. She told me to talk my prenatal vitamin so I don't which one to take so I take prenatal 1 one a day

Best prenatal— farm fresh eggs. 6-8 of them, daily, along with a pint of raw milk from grass-fed jersey cows. every amino acid, vitamin, mineral and enzyme known to man is contained within them and the body knows what to do with them and excretes what isn’t needed. these synthetic vitamins are poison.

I have two daughters with two different women. my oldest daughters mother consumed calf an chicken livers regularly, drank raw milk and had a lot of eggs regularly. no processed foods. my oldest has absolutely no attention disorders, no hyper activity, her teeth came out straight and she has never had any breathing problems. she was able to skip a grade because she excels in her school work.

my youngest, unfortunately, is the exact opposite. her mother ate a lot of processed food and took synthetic prenatals. over 60% of Americans have a MTHFR gene mutation, they cant take folic acid (a lot of processed food is fortified with folic acid, they need methyfolate)

Hi Dr. Marta, I read an article about the top recommended prenatal vitamins and FullWell prenatal was on the top of the list. However, looking at the vitamins a full dose contains it looks like it is a very large amount of each vitamin--how do we know if a vitamin is "too much"? Thank you!

Just an fyi, many people in “underdeveloped countries” as you call them eat really well, have access to fresh produce and it’s cheap so that could buy a lot. I’m an American who spends time and is currently pregnant in Egypt and I don’t need except folic acid because my diet is healthy- got buckets of fresh delish Mediterranean produce at my disposal every day. There’s literally a fresh food market on every block.

Hi Dr. Perez, congrats on your pregnancy (and now maybe newborn)! I was looking into the Nature Made prenatal you mentioned but it looks like it doesn't have any choline. I also noticed it has soybean oil and I have issues with soy so it won't work for me. I've been looking at the Pure Encapsulations prenatal and it looks pretty great aside from high Vit A. The label says it has 2,400 mcg of Vit A as beta carotene. Is this an unsafe amount?
