As a retired Navy Chief I was appalled when I read about this. The Senior Chief should have gotten a jail sentence for sabotage. The unauthorized Starlink signals were an OPSEC nightmare.

Anyone who worked on a modern USN ship knows that anything electronic that emits waves would be picked up by the radar/scanner guys from the ship or nearby USN ships.
Over that, she is an Intel person and she probably would know what would happened if this was discovered. I don't believe this for one cent.
Edit: Also, a StarLink dish needs to be connected to a device (aka the router with a WiFi antenna on the ship that broascast the SSIDs), so they really drilled the USS Manchester to pass the power and network cables inside or they let them dingle on the side of the ship without anyone noticing it?

Armed forces thrive on imposed discipline which breeds self-discipline. Without strict discipline we get scornworthy degenerate conduct like this. If junior Sailors had done it their careers would be over. Other people promoted these dirtbags which makes this a military culture problem. She made rank because of her gender, not merit, as her actions prove, but everyone who went along with it instead of notifying outside authorities of the security breach also violated their oath of service.

That was NOT an effort to "HIDE" it... that was more like putting on the ROOF of your house for better reception... it also may have had something to do with the wiring and power needs... now, they could have put it even one or two levels higher...
