As far as origin stories go thats pretty damn cool.

Something definitely worth noting here on the whole "Admitting he wasn't actually hired" thing is that in jobs like call centers, especially ones with particularly large turnover where the shifts are becoming hard to cover, while this kind of move is deeply discouraged I cannot think of very many people I know in this field that would turn down a decent employee regardless of how they fall in your lap. Once Dan showed he was semi-capable he was already better than 90% of the people they did interview, and probably better than a good deal of the people they hired. Making a big deal about it would just be more work for the managers and lose a decent employee.
