Top 50 Indie Games

One can tell that a lot of work went into the list and the video accordingly. However, I completely fail to understand how Terraria, Undertale or Factorio were not even remotely mentioned. Groundbraking titles, that coined large parts of the indie scene with player bases far exceeding any of the top 10 titles. Noita, Risk of Rain and Rimworld you could argue, but the above? That's quite a slip!

Bro said minecraft and not Terraria?????? Terraria should be at least top 10! Minecraft is objectively the worse game, Terraria is better in every aspect.
That isn't to say Minecraft is bad by any means, I rlly like it but Terraria is objectively better by far, and the fact that he didn't consider it for #50 is MINDBLOWING

my family have never been financially stable and so i ended up playing free games throughout my life mostly because i didnt want to put any sort of pressure on my parents so I usually watched videos such as these for no particular reason today my mum bought me a 15$ gift card and i can buy my favourite indie game. this is the happiest day ever for me

Deaths door was intensely boring I have no idea how you rate it so highly. The music is nice, but super repetitive and no point does it ever want to shift your mood, every are has 1 track on loop ad infinitum and when you encounter specific enemies it changes to combat music that is almost always worse. Enemies are too easy, combat is boring, you never had to think while playing the game, the puzzles I'd barely call puzzles, couldnt bring myself to finish it. I feel like everything you said about this game is a flat out lie. The enemies are tough? No they arent, every single enemy from start to finish requires this combo no matter your character upgrade, hit, hit, dodge, rinse repeat for 10 hours, oh an enemy with projectiles, hit, hit, dodge, ooooh a frog like enemy that jumps in the air, hit, hit, dodge, oooh a boss, hit, hit, dodge. The bosses are an absolute cake walk with most of them being very easily beatable on the first turn. There also isn't a ton of weapons and upgrades, theres 5 weapons with the first being the only good weapon until you get the hammer, which is only slightly better. Jump attack is useless from high points, roll attack is useless, the combat is mechanically poor. The game doesnt have interesting characters, almost every preview, review, or discussion about the game mentions the barman with the octopus on his back, notice how nothing else is ever mentioned? It's not even an interesting character, if what it truely was had more subtlety I'd understand why its interesting, instead it constantly points out what it is making its own disguise pointless. The lack of voice over made the character feel totally lifeless and eventually got so bored by most of it I found myself mashing the skip button, a character with a pot on its head called pot head, wow ba-dum tish, its humour that bashes you over the head with how straight forward it is. A game your coming back to in the future? For what? It's a 10 hour long game and you couldn't even bring yourself to finish it, that says it all. It's a boring slog through a decent looking world. Its a game that suffers from highway syndrome, a great game before bedtime.

I think where a game like Superhot really shines is the VR console

This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on YT. You can just FEEL the love for video games as a medium beyond the graphics and gameplay. Video games, like any other medium, is often a reflection of the current state of humanity as a whole. Amazing!

based on the roguelite and roguelike games and especially hades on your list, I must ask have you ever played Children of Morta? If you haven't it might just make your top ten tbh. Please check it out, anyone that likes games like the binding of issac, moonlighter, hades, hyperlight drifter.... you owe it to yourself to check out Children of Morta.

great list but i feel like boneworks deserves a spot on this and easily top 3 and in my opinion number 1 it surpasses any other vr game and will stay that way for a long time with insane physics more accurate than any massive company by miles also some other games id add and some games id remove from my top 50 but a lot of these are solid choices

I am looking for an indie game. It was a project of a Russian I think. I remember the video showed a character in third person. Aboriginal style , with an Aztec weapon. He had powers and fought on top of a spaceship. It had ultra hd graphics. Does anyone know the name or the video from 4 years ago?

I know it's been a while but you should play TUNIC. You'll enjoy it.

I'm not saying it's the best, but to this day no indie game has had the same impact as Limbo had the first time playing it. It was hauntingly beautiful.

Funny enough, Tunic's language IS decipherable, it is English but in phonetic spelling, so Tunic would be 'too-n-i-ke' or something along those lines

My top favorite indie would be either undertale/deltarune or Inscryption they both gave me hope (mainly Inscryption bc i played maneater before it and maneater is dogshit)

First let me start out by saying great video and job well done. You were inevitably going to miss a few that you forgot about or something but did your best to make a fairly cohesive list anyway.
That being said, there are a few that I refuse to believe you haven't played as an indie connoisseur and I must calmly ask...

WHERE THE F#&% IS RISK OF RAIN 2? AND OMORI? AND RAINWORLD? I can forgive the omission of some of my faves such as Inscyption, Ori, Rhythm Doctor, Hypnospace Outlaw, even gahdamn Enter The Gungeon. But a Hat In Time? Castle Crashers ? TERRARIA ?? MOTHER&%$# UNDERTALE ??? Bruh.

The fact that Enter Tue Gungeon isn’t on here makes this list bill and void, and worthless.

Some of the greatest games of all time have been indie games. League of legends, valorant, counter strike are all indie games and they are also the biggest esports games ever. Throw in Rocket League, which has an average monthly player base of 93 million players. Just showing love to the online side!

Very good list. I came to find some new indies and I found some! The Minecraft disrespect was weird though. And somehow, terraria was disrespected the most.

Hi. Thanks for the video. I don't know if you remember an indie game where the main characters are a father and a daughter from a kingdom from the medieval time, and they exiled or something and try to get revenge back. Both of them have a red cloak in the design, it is a strategy RPG or RPG, very bloody. I remember I played the trial version on PS4 or ps vita(vita version was cancelled). I know it is a vague explanation, but if anyone remembers that game, please let me know. Thanks.

Great list. Some titles I wish I'd seen on here were Loop Hero and Beacon Pines. Beacon Pines is a lot shorter with amazing art while Loop Hero has interesting gameplay that sticks with you. Either these I believe could be top 15 if not 10

My personal recommandations that wasn't in this top would be in a first time Undertale ofc. Not the first to talk about it but it's one of this game that really uses the video game format at it's full potential to brings you a ton of various emotions.
Moreover I would reccomande This War Of Mine, a game that puts you in a precarious context of surviving during a tough war, where every resource may save you 1 more day in an anxious atmosphere of privations. A true realistic and innovative way to talk about citizens suffering from war. From the same studio, Frostpunk is a great mix of survival and city building in a bristish steampunk ambiant that brings a lot of moral questions when you have to take decision for the survival of your group.
About survival game you can't skip The Long Dark, the most realistic game of this gender. There is a story mode that learn you basic with a nice scenario, but the best way to play the game is the endless mode, with it awesome exploration and gigantic map.
I would end by talking about Portal 1 and 2, the best puzzle game I've ever play where the solution is alway right in front of you but never obvious. The 2bd opus is very nicely blent with a well written story and wholesome characters. It's one of the best experience to take a first step in the indie world.
