...did anyone else wig out a bit when he said FOUR daily walks? when am i supposed to live MY life? jeez. working breeds, in general, should probly remain relegated to farms and whatnot. who in the hell can take their dog out 4 times per day? unless for whatever reason you dont work.. rich or retired or whathaveyou..?

i let my australian kelpie sniff all he wants, we walk off lead and even cross busy roads together without a lead, he can sniff and piss on anything he wants too, he still has his balls too, never prevent a dog from fulfilling it's instincts, it will be a lot happier if it is allowed to roam free and wild within reason, i hear of owners that try to stop there dogs from scent marking, this is absolutely stupid and very self centered and ignorant of owners, let the dog play out it's instincts, let it piss on tree's and lamp posts, it will be a lot happier and natural, dont suppress the dogs instincts if you dont need too, what's the big deal if a dog pisses on a tree or lamp post, nothing, but the dog gets to live out its nature, imagine being forced to listen to rap music if you are a baby boomer, it would be hell ???

i have an australian kelpie, they look remarkably like short haired border collies and have all the same problems and skills as a border collie, they even look the same, only with shorter hair for the australian climate, they have the border collie eye when working with sheep, so i assume they bred the australian kelpie from short haired collies for the australian climate, the only thing about them is they look slightly more muscular but they have the same intelligence, i dont use a lead on my kelpie and we even cross busy roads together, this would not be hard to do with a border collie, but my point is the australian kelpie and the border collie are kindred spirits if not genetically similar ???

My Border Collie, Coco, lived to 16 years, active until the end. She had brown eyes, but the first dog I had, who was a Border Collie-Papillon Spaniel mix, had the bottom of his eyes brown and the top blue. He once won a contest for the most original-looking dog. I really miss both these companions.

Border Collies from the English/Scottish border are direct descents of the Australian Shepherd?? Are you on glue? The Border Collie hails from a country thousands of years old; the Australian Shepherd a country that's been in existence only 250 years. Jesus, did you even go to school? Wow, I'd take anything this idiot says with a skip full of salt

Never heard of a border collie being descended from Australian shepherds before. Since Australian shepherds were bred in California, I doubt that this is true.

I am, currently, training my second border collie mix.
My first, now 12, a lab/husky/border collie, has been off-leash in the yard, and on walks, since he was 7 months. I've had people trying to buy him his whole life. I started at 5k, told one five figures, and he last person to ask was told he couldn't afford him. It was fun, the looks i got.
My 9 month, a border collie/austrailian shepherd/hangin tree/blue heeler, is progressing nicely. He's an easy walk, amazing recall, and showing more of his intelligence, daily.
While no experience with a pure border collie, I can say that my mixes have been amazing. Intelligent, workable, friendly...amazing dogs.

I have a rescue border collie. her previous owners never walked her and kept her in a cage and decided to get rid of her. she was terrified of walks and people for months as the previous owners never socialised her of took her out. she now runs to the door with excitement wagging her tail around when she hears me put my keys in my pocket or sees me putting my jacket on. i still get angry when i tell people about her previous parents. its awful to not walk your dog but to not walk your border collie...??? they need so much excersice.

They don't know where they originate? A Scotsman not claiming it's Scottish. Very unusual. Jocks claim everything originated in Scotland.
Border collies as is now originated in Northumberland England. Most BCs if pure can trace it's origens back to Old Hemp. Check it out.
The jocks are full of piss. As for Collie being Gaelic? They just grab and write or spout any crap.
A Northumbrian who doesn't like the jocks.

I rescued a black with very little white except for her feet and chest border collie in May of 2019. I had recently lost a great little brown and white mix to cancer. He was 15+ the best friend anybody could want. I didn't handle Rocky's passing well and thought I would never feel like that again. I was wrong. She wasn't quite a year old yet but living on the streets. I took her in and my life was never the same. Her love and loyalty was what I needed. Roxy was everything I wanted in a pet, she was so much more. I felt blessed to have her in my life. That's why this past Monday evening is so painful. I dropped my girlfriend off at work and on the way home I must have closed my eyes and hit a mobile construction
Sign on the side of the interstate at over 75 mph. I was fine, and all my dogs were ok but Roxy must have rolled her window down because she knew how, and jumped out. She came to me and I told her to stay back, but when I checked on them just 15 seconds later, she had gone out the window and into oncoming traffic. By the time I got out to get her it was to late. I'm in shock, this beautiful, loving, loyal, perfect dog was gone. Less than three years old . It's not fair, I keep thinking it's a bad dream but I can't wake up. When did God do this to me? To her? The world was better with her in it. Now I'm alone, and it hurts. It won't stop. It's Rocky all over again. I not a people person. Dogs have always been a part of me, I still have two, but Roxy was taken so suddenly and so young. It's a pain that I can't bare. To all dog lovers and owners, don't take them for granted. God may call them home at any time. Love and cherish your time with them, for it never is enough. God bless all dogs and their humans, and Gob bless Roxy, I miss you, wait with Rocky, I will find you both again. I'm sorry I failed you. Please forgive me.

First dog I remember was a Border Collie, my auntie's dog, and it was the first dog that ever bit me! It was my fault, I decided that I was smarter than she was and was taught a valuable lesson and, it was one that's stuck with me.

Later in life, a mate bred Collies as working dogs and they were characters, all individuals and all smarter than me. A good few ended up as search dogs, SARDA, and performed in incidents like Lockerbie to great praise.

Collies have that look about them, they eye you up trying to decide how they can use you to their advantage but, what a breed. Brilliant dogs, loyal as hell and just so much fun. What more can you ask?

I could do without the bite on my backside though......
