Strength of Matetials is not always measured in Young's Modulus. It depends on which strength are we talking about. It can Tensile/Compressional strength, Torsional stength, Bending Strength, Thermal strength etc. For a high school teenager, it was a good question but not for physicist-Engineer debate.
.
& Flow of water through pipe is again not as simple as given in basic standards. We need to first find out whether its a Laminar or Turbulent flow and only then we can apply any concepts.
.
Eddy current was a basic one. But there are chances that some Electrical engineer may find some inaccuracies in that answer too.

The real test would have been in having Sheldon apply his knowledge to Howard’s devices, no? I remember a college mate telling me that Engineering is straight forward until you have to engineer what you put on paper.

Why did he ask Sheldon physics and mechanics questions? Thats not the most difficult engineering questions. Ask him about how to set up a robotic system and make it move without googling

The covert satanists in alcoholics anonymous are desperately trying to prove they are smarter than me. This is why Jep keeps asking me "do you know what this means"? His goal is to prove to everyone that he is the alpha in the room.

I never understood the trope of the Hollywood Nerd. One can be very smart while also working out and looking well.
It was the case for me as a teenager, and I inspired many others to do the same. What I don't get is why people are so lazy and afraid of success.

First of all, questions asked by Howard were very fundamental. Something we studied in 8th grade. He is an aerospace engineer, and he was asking about transformers. i am sure none of the physics would be able to answer an electrical engineer with just bachelors.

The great time for a nerd, is senior year in high school.
When they get great scholarships , or accepted to top ten university, while the idiot bullies face a future at Burger King..
I had many friends in the nerd group.
One of them is now a leader in optics technology.. He lectures , leads a think tank . Another is a dean of nursing for a leading nursing school.
Strange, I had brilliant friends, and didn't really know it lol. they were just sweet funny kids I hung out with..
I am the oddball of the group... sing for a living

@Biomechan

Young's Modulus describes the elastic response of a material assuming it has linear elastic behaviour. Strength iis the maximum stress in can take. This does not correspond even to its maximum elongation at break and in most cases is within a non-linear plastic region. The question becomes more interesting when we consider strain rate effects (viscoelasticity). Not to mention anisotropy and heterogeneity. So, Sheldon and Howard are so wrong that it makes me want to examine every "science" statement they made!!

Why were the questions howard asked so basic? Flow rate in a pipe and Young's modulus are basic concepts covered in even the worst freshman level physics course. And the lamination of core material is the kind of factoid that requires no understand or interest in the underlying subject matter, just merely having come across it.

Sheldon has a higher IQ but that doesn't make him smarter. Sheldon works in theoretically physics while Howard is an engineer. It is impossible to know if Howard is as smart as Sheldon since he didnt have the schooling that Sheldon had. He never took theoretical physics.
