Maybe it will not be good. But I think Catalonia should be independent as Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and Romania, because like the CzechoSlovakia (or SlovakoCzechia) Split, Czechia and Slovakia split as their own Slavic Countries, so as the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic split up. I think Catalonia and Spain should be independent countries even if that will be worse, sorry people 😭😂!!!!!

It's funny that the separatists want democracy, but see an undemocratic referendum as valid. It's clear that the separatist leaders have their own agenda, and they're using people for their own interests. Catalans are not repressed or discriminated.

I think Spain is different from other European countries, most European countries speak same language across the country, it's mostly africa that speaks different languages in same country, I may be wrong but I haven't seen any other European country speaking different languages. I think catalan from the unset was a country on it on and later merged with Spain to make Spain stronger and now they want be autonomous.

Germany, France, Italy, the UK, etc are all one nation states, it's only Spain that has different language spoken from from other regions.

I'm not Spanish or Catalan, I just want to look at it with a neutral eye:

The Catalans say that if we leave Spain, we will be richer, but it is wrong. If there is separation, you will not be able to enter the European Union and the United Nations. Many countries do not recognize you so that the same does not happen to them. Therefore, you become like Cuba. I think Spain should remain a whole and a fairer revenue sharing should be considered.

They can’t be independent without the helps from outside of the EU like US or Russia. Basically all the EU countries side with Spain, especially France and Italy that controls Roussillon and Alghero

What I would most demand from the Spanish central government and encourage non Catalan citizens in Spain is respect ,appreciation of the Catalan culture.language .....Identity . More autonomy and say in Finances and management of their taxes, laws and infrastructures. They are an imaginative and industrious Region, a land of artists and entrepreneur s.

This perfectly explains why Spain sides with Serbia politically. Police force was also used when Kosovo wanted to break away but since Serbia is not western ally NATO bombed the Country xD Also Montenegro from Serbia seceded with only 50% in favor of leaving... So as it turns it will be as USA want it to be. There is no universal standard at all.

From a rational standpoint, it doesnt make any sense why Calatonia should be an own country. Because of their own culture and language? Thats ridiculous, sorry. They are not oppressed, the era of Franco is long gone. If you argue the way the separatists do, then Basque would have to be a sovereign country too. And Andalusia. And Galicia. And Valencia.

A deep issue. Many Spaniards are Catalans and many Catalans are Spaniards. Right to self-determination is a Human Right.

There is something to comment when saying 50 % of catalan want independence.
Catalunya have been mistreated by spain by many centuries, it was Franco and before him it was Primo de Rivera, before it was the spanish kings. If there's a common think that is constant in spanish history is the opression of the national cultures like basques or catalans. You may think that's a history issue but up to today in 2024 the spanish politicians are still trying to take the catalan language out of schools and libraries in order to kill the culture and reach the assimilation to the spanish that they've been trying for centuries. With all these being said: 80-90 % of the catalan descendent people want independence because of knowledge of our own history. The thing is that Catalunya is a highly inmigrant society with almost half of the population coming from the massive inmigration waves of the 70's from the south of Spain to Catalunya. That is why the polling is around 50-50. The catalans in one side and the spanish in the other. They are people that will get offended by this comment arguing that they are also catalan even tough they come from inmigrant families (which is completly true) but the truth is they only use it as an argument, besides this, they will never use the catalan language with anybody (they'll demand you to change to spanish), they completlly reject every tradition, music and everything that has to do with catalunya and its culture, and the worst of all is that among them they are proud of this, and they show-off of how little integrated they are to a society that welcomed them and their families.

In the spirit of the 4th of July, why doesn’t the US or any nation recognize Catalonia’s independence? The people put forward a referendum, voted on it, while Spain tried shutting down polling stations the way a dictator would, with batons and swat, what’s the dilemma? This should be encouraged anywhere it manifests from Ireland to Taiwan. Let people be in control of themselves

Separatist Terrorist Catatonias can make new country in France. They some of the catalan culture left. There was never independent country name as Catalonia. I was under Aragon kingdom and the King of Aragon married to Castilian Queen then they became united Spain. Don't break Spanish unity. Catalonian part is very small compared to other region.
