So the orange stuff in leaves is the same as in what makes vegetables orange, & its job is to help absorb light, cool.

...now that I think about it, some leaves really are the exact same shades of reds, yellows & oranges as peppers, carrots and fruits.

I'm so confused on what exactly a 'pigment' is.

First you say Chlorophyll is a plant pigment

Then immediately after say Chlorophylls are large molecules with a cyclic portion that binds to a metal ion.

So is Chlorophyll a pigment

or is the pigment a part of chlorophyll?


Or do 'pigments' not exist in reality and are just an abstraction to describe the phenomena of light?
