Not here to start a debate, but I'd think Metallica was one of his biggest influences. The dude the longest time was driven so much in wanting to be faster, more complex and better than a band he despised, yet resented over how much fame they got.

The fact that dave is giving a big shout out to the Beatles and cat Stevens says a lot. This guy is a legend and the acts he cited are legendary as well. Love it.

vivaldi thats funny. actually suzuki violin book 4 song 4 (the vivaldi concerto in a minor) was the passage into advanced beginner violining. and that song shredded :). At an audition, I lost control playing a passage toward the end of the piece since I was playing too fast. luckily i recovered shortly after...epic...

I'm really surprised how many of the thrash bands name the Beatles,, as Major influences. just shows you that class is permanent. You start out listening to mussic, of all types, then youu find your niche that you like most and blaze your own trail.

So many people assume that just because the end product ends up as a pparticular type of music, there is no way they could have been influenced by something so far removed.

I'm pretty sure that if Lennon had been born in the seventies, he would have ended up a heavy metal, or thrash metal artist. Of course, that kind of stuf wasn't around in the fifties, so he had to create it himself E.g.: I think parts of "revolution" and "helter-skelter" are touching on Heavy metal, Amongst others

Vivaldi is such a weird choice IMO...I mean I guess I see the "shred" factor that he's getting at, but that was typical of Baroque music in general. Handel, Scarlatti (A. and D.), Hasse, friggin BACH....flashy passagework was the norm. Vivaldi's innovation was really in his tonal organization and treatment of the relationship between soloist and orchestra. I wish metal musicians who cite influences from classical music took the time to really dig into the repertoire - there's a lot there!

Megadeth = 1980s California "punk" with drop D tuning because they were too lame to learn how to play like Yngwie. Thrash is trash. And eveything that has come from it also is trash: death, Nu, etc.
