one of my all time favorite jets ever

My first time seeing the F-14 was at an air show in Memphis. I was barely out of basic training and had never witnessed anything like it. It was fairly new in the inventory at that time and was slated to replace the F-4 phantom. It did an overhead pass, then hit AB, pointed nearly vertical, and disappeared from sight in no time. I was pretty much enamored by the Tomcat ever since then. It was one of the most maintenance-intensive aircraft the Navy had at the time, but was also the most badass! If there wasn't a fuel seep somewhere, it was probably out of gas, and the wing sweep system was a nightmare to maintain, but when it was working, it was a formidable platform.

F-14 had a radar range of 200 miles compared to the F-15 only 10 miles. Even modern jets like the F-22 are not as long range as the F-14.
