want to keep my ootheca over the winter and release them in spring..I live in Canada ... I know to keep them in the fridge Im guessing at the bottom in the crisper...Right or wrong ? Also should I have like a piece of napkin and keep it most inside for humidity,, is this good or bad..They are Carolina mantises and also my container has holes in it too...

I found two mantises one male and other female, they had their last molt and i waited 3 weeks for them to be mature enough to mate. They mated but the male was eaten. 1 week later guess what..... She made an egg that looked rly healthy😊

Wow! Very informative Albert. I naturally have the Chinese ones in my yard. I never heard of the Carolina ones. I will surely be trying those next year. You do such a nice job with your videos. I am very impressed

Please remember that praying mantises are generalized hunters meaning they will eat stink bugs, but also bees & butterflies as well. There are videos and accounts of mantids plucking honey bees out of the air and eating them. I think they’re cool, but not a fit for my garden since I need pollinators to pollinate my fruits and veggies. The best natural pest control I’ve found are wasps. They love to prey on caterpillars, which if cabbage moths are a problem for you like they are for me is a Godsend. But I do want a pet praying mantis so I’m thinking of buying an egg sac and hatching some and selecting a few to keep as pets, and letting the rest loose in our greenhouse.

Maybe a silly question, but will releasing them on my property help establish a population longterm? Or will I need to add to the population every spring? I don't know if they tend to stick around an area or if I should expect a large portion of them to leave for other areas as they mature

I am In New Jersey, I don't have a garden however I have lantern flys and I don't even have trees in my yard so I'm not sure where they are coming from but probably the neighbors trees and it's really pissing me off sorry to sound so angry but I am Angry! And the dawn soap and Vinegar and all that maybe works for some but not me and I can't afford all that so I rather do the REAL Natural way and plus I Love Praying mantises. My Husband loved them and he is in Heaven now and went Young due to Brain cancer. So I'm a 38 year old widow just kinda forced to learn all this on my own and let me tell You, I Appreciate These types of videos because You Sir are a Smart Man. Thank You and God Bless 🎗️❤️🙏

I'd be extremely surprised if mantis eat stink bugs. I think it would taste bad to a preying mantis. I could be wrong.
I know they won't mess with the bombedeering beetle.

Awesome info! We have kept a few Mantids over the summer. One of them just produced an ootheca and there is another female that should produce soon as well. Can we keep them inside for a couple more weeks or should we place them outside ASAP?

Can we release them into a simple lawn, without a garden? There are some bushes and mulch and different shrubbery, and then about half an acre of grass. Can i release them into an environment like that? Do i need to have food set up for them initially for when they come out of the casing? Or will they be fine on their own? Thanks a lot!

Hey I have a problem with my habenero plants. I had aphids on them and they were wiped out by my lady bugs. But these tiny red spiders showed up and took over the plants. The lady bugs didn’t want to eat them. Do you think the mantis would be a good idea to eat these tiny spiders.

Stink bugs are SUCH a headache in my area in Central Indiana. If I put out a few egg cases around my home in the Spring, how many Praying Mantis's would actually still stay in the area in the Fall, which is when the stink bug population is awful.

I have a question. It was the begging of February when I found a skinny brown inch egg. I've tied it with a tiny string against the roof of a glass jar with holes in it. It's not tightly attached. I'm wondering if I should put it in the fridge Intel maybe spring time or just let the jar sit outside in a shady area. I live in southern California so it's not that cold this winter. I believe it's not hatched because each layer of the egg has a white foam over it like a seal. How should I go about taking care of it?

Great video and learned a lot! Hadn't thought of or knew I could buy mantids until visiting Louis Ginger Botanical Gardens in VA when a mantid landed on my husband when it was a little breezy. I'm unable to find them on eBay where you bought yours. Can only get the Chinese variety not the Carolina kind. It's now June, is it too late to get and put out? Thank you so much
