When this was edited, it was pure brilliance to thnk of slowing it all down. Poignant and a fitting end to a truly wonderful series.

It's interesting that Blackadder makes a note of them not wanting to shoot their own troops. For a while that was an actual problem. There was a technique known as the creeping barrage or the rolling barrage the British employed where they would fire their artillery directly in front of the line of men as they advance to create a sort of shield of smoke and exploding dirt. The problem was predictably if it was this time to even slightly you would walk directly into your own shells.

My brother was in Saudi waiting to advance into Kuwait in the first Gulf War. My mum suggested I send him a video for Christmas. Guess what I had never seen... Guess what I sent him as he was waiting to go into a warzone.

He thought it rather funny- Mum, less so.

This was the perfect way to end this show. Anything else and it would have felt shallow.

Its easy to think of the casualties of any war as mere statistics but when get to know these men it brings home what a colossal tragedy this was

It reminded me of a chick flick I watched where we get to know the main characters only for them to die in the World Trade Center at the end of the film.

I served for nearly a year in a German Navy ship (I'm British) and they adored this series (as well as Fawlty Towers.) We finished watching this in the Wardroom one night. Sat in silence for a minute or so and then all shook hands. No words. Few beers afterwards though.

In 2023 / selling or wearing a poppy is seen as offensive in the U.K - flying the Union Jack is a big No No . But the biggest Crime is actually being patriotic.

Comedy useing the Stage of WW1 but the most unusual ending of any Comedy series by paying respect to the fallen. I commend them for such an emotional ending.

Probably the best, and saddest endings you will see to a comedy series. Right up until the end they are hoping that something will save them - then all the humour of the whole series is gone as you realise they are going over the top to their deaths. To slow that action down, to fade it and replace it with a field of poppies was a brilliant piece of thinking.

People really need to watch all of the episodes of Blackadder Goes Forth, because it leads up to the point when they realise they're not going home. The Blackadder team have done a fantastic job at poking fun at English history. All of them are absolutely amazing. I'm British, and I loved Blackadder.

I like how Blackadder isn't just dismissing Baldrick's 'plan'. He is at a point where he knows any plan right then could work and he would go along with Bakdrick's instructions. But 'it will have to wait'... indefinitely.

My great great uncle signed up in 1914 when he was 17 years old and by some miracle fought all the way through the war and survived..... Well his body did but he was a wrecked and broken man for the rest of his life. Died alone and ostracized by the rest of my family in the 1930s from the effects of being an alchololic. That's what happened to so many of those who did survive.

My grandfather survived the Somme and WWI. I never knew him, I was 2 when he died in 1965. It was said he never spoke about his experiences other than how he escaped from the butchery when the order came to retreat.

4 series of ridiculous escapades of a buffoon of a man and his sidekicks, all forgotten for four of the most thought provoking minutes on UK TV.

This is such a fitting end for all those who saw such horror.
