When this was edited, it was pure brilliance to thnk of slowing it all down. Poignant and a fitting end to a truly wonderful series.
ОтветитьIf a nation wins a war.....only the leaders will win !!!
Just as today............
:-(
Wife: You've never cried during a scene from a TV series.
Me: Hold my beer.
It's interesting that Blackadder makes a note of them not wanting to shoot their own troops. For a while that was an actual problem. There was a technique known as the creeping barrage or the rolling barrage the British employed where they would fire their artillery directly in front of the line of men as they advance to create a sort of shield of smoke and exploding dirt. The problem was predictably if it was this time to even slightly you would walk directly into your own shells.
ОтветитьI like it how Hugh Laurie sais splendid... its so exaggeratedly British...
ОтветитьMy brother was in Saudi waiting to advance into Kuwait in the first Gulf War. My mum suggested I send him a video for Christmas. Guess what I had never seen... Guess what I sent him as he was waiting to go into a warzone.
He thought it rather funny- Mum, less so.
Still the greatest last line in TV history.
ОтветитьThis was one incredible series probably the best from the Blackadder forum ❤
ОтветитьThis was the perfect way to end this show. Anything else and it would have felt shallow.
Its easy to think of the casualties of any war as mere statistics but when get to know these men it brings home what a colossal tragedy this was
It reminded me of a chick flick I watched where we get to know the main characters only for them to die in the World Trade Center at the end of the film.
I served for nearly a year in a German Navy ship (I'm British) and they adored this series (as well as Fawlty Towers.) We finished watching this in the Wardroom one night. Sat in silence for a minute or so and then all shook hands. No words. Few beers afterwards though.
ОтветитьIn 2023 / selling or wearing a poppy is seen as offensive in the U.K - flying the Union Jack is a big No No . But the biggest Crime is actually being patriotic.
ОтветитьComedy useing the Stage of WW1 but the most unusual ending of any Comedy series by paying respect to the fallen. I commend them for such an emotional ending.
ОтветитьBlackadder is one of if not the best show I’ve ever seen, a gut-wrenching ending that would break down anyone, impeccable acting and writing and good luck everyone.
ОтветитьIt's a TV show!
ОтветитьMy grandfather fought in World War 1. He would never talk about it.
ОтветитьProbably the best, and saddest endings you will see to a comedy series. Right up until the end they are hoping that something will save them - then all the humour of the whole series is gone as you realise they are going over the top to their deaths. To slow that action down, to fade it and replace it with a field of poppies was a brilliant piece of thinking.
Ответитьmr bean really went back in time for this one
ОтветитьPeople really need to watch all of the episodes of Blackadder Goes Forth, because it leads up to the point when they realise they're not going home. The Blackadder team have done a fantastic job at poking fun at English history. All of them are absolutely amazing. I'm British, and I loved Blackadder.
ОтветитьI like how Blackadder isn't just dismissing Baldrick's 'plan'. He is at a point where he knows any plan right then could work and he would go along with Bakdrick's instructions. But 'it will have to wait'... indefinitely.
Ответить30 plus years later this still gets to me.
ОтветитьOn the words "I'm scared Sir", this series flipped from legendary comedy turned into an epitaph of horror. Outstanding writing beautifully acted.
ОтветитьThe ending gets me every time.😭😭❤️
ОтветитьBy some distance, the greatest end to any television show. Perfectly delivered, paced and uncompromising. A work of utter genius
Ответитьso so sad.
ОтветитьMy great great uncle signed up in 1914 when he was 17 years old and by some miracle fought all the way through the war and survived..... Well his body did but he was a wrecked and broken man for the rest of his life. Died alone and ostracized by the rest of my family in the 1930s from the effects of being an alchololic. That's what happened to so many of those who did survive.
ОтветитьToday marks the 105th anniversary to a horror unimaginable to most of us.R.I.P to the veterans of any country involved.
ОтветитьCaptain darling was literally sent to his death
ОтветитьYou replaced the fade to poppies and the bird song with a plug for BBC Comedy Greats? I’m a little disappointed.
ОтветитьWars are started by old men who never have to fight, and are fought by young men who had no part in starting them. 😔
ОтветитьThe end of Blackadder goes forth has to be one of the best bits of television ever. Funny but also heartbreaking.
ОтветитьThis ending always makes me tear up. The worse part, we haven't learned anything from then.
ОтветитьA testament to good editing of poor footage
ОтветитьThe last great thing the BBC put out. It's been pathetic woke dross ever since. How did a national institution fall so quick?
ОтветитьBrilliant acting, just brilliant.
Ответить036/1870
ОтветитьOne of the most poignant and correct ends to a comedy series. Tears in my eyes each time I've watched it. ❤
ОтветитьOne of, if not the most, drastic and effective tonal shifts in any comedy ever made. Even the studio audience went quiet. 10/10 writing
ОтветитьWhen life throws a spanner to the face and I can't duck dodge dip dive dodge it I just think of this one scene. I still didn't have it bad as those guys back in the WW1 day. I count my blessings for sure.
ОтветитьOne of the few shows that still hits me in the heart all this time later. Loved this one.
ОтветитьLiterally moved me to tears
ОтветитьIsn't this powerful enough to tell us the commeners not to be fooled by the politicians who glorify the wars and hide behind and order us to charge forward?
ОтветитьWhat breaks my heart is that throughout the Blackadder series we are introduced to various generations of Blackadder, but the family name will die here, with our Captain Blackadder
ОтветитьThe scene cuts off too soon. Needed to wait another 20 seconds or so - to see the field turn to poppies. Then silence, apart from some birdsong. And the absence of the usual closing credits.
ОтветитьMy grandfather survived the Somme and WWI. I never knew him, I was 2 when he died in 1965. It was said he never spoke about his experiences other than how he escaped from the butchery when the order came to retreat.
4 series of ridiculous escapades of a buffoon of a man and his sidekicks, all forgotten for four of the most thought provoking minutes on UK TV.
This is such a fitting end for all those who saw such horror.
Maybe the saddest part is that this once, Baldrick's plan probably was quite cunning
ОтветитьProbably genuinely the best season finale of any show. A powerful way to go out.
Think about this in coming years.
After all who would notice another mad man .. as relevant today as then
Ответить"Who would've noticed another madman around here" ....
ОтветитьI still remember seeing this for the first time when it was aired. It was so impressive and truly captured the madness of WW1. It made me sad.
