The thing with Simon's music is that the melodies and chords are nothing special (no offense). Its just that he picks the perfect sounds for the job. I spend hours in the piano roll creating the perfect melody but it all falls apart when I add anything else. It's not that I don't know music theory, I actually studied it. I even have perfect pitch. 4 years of making beats and I haven't improved since year two. I used to be arrogant saying "well maybe you don't like this genre" to anyone against my music. Listening to Simon's beats cured my arrogance and helped me realize how much left I have to learn.
