I really respect Kirk. Obviously, he could have just played some crazy fast shredding guitar solo, but instead went with something melodic and Nice. And it is as Lars said when talking about metallica writing ballads: if you have something slow and soft and melodic and Nice, then the fast heavy stuff will seen more heavy and fast.

this solo is one of the reasons i adore kirk so much. this solo is so pretty yet haunting in a way, it tells its own story without a single word, just beautiful notes and chords. kirk is an absolutely wonderful guitarist, and in my eyes, he's a hero.

I am by no means a big Metallica or KH fan but that was really beautiful I think

overall I can't say I'm a fan of KH and yet I keep coming back to this. It's different, melodic, cool chords, tells a story.

Kirk is one of the greatest lead guitar players ever. His improvs are sometimes hit or big miss but he's just so well rounded. All these guitar nerds who have all the fancy techniques never wrote anything close to this.
