it's a really scary villain who explores the history of his enemies and their tactics and strengths and culture to find a true path to victory

I think Dave Filoni is in the process of resurrecting the sequel trilogy. Finally something that can unite the fan base rather then divide it.

Thrawn’s one of the few Star Wars villains that you can genuinely respect.

Yes, he occasionally does some very evil things. But he never does them purely for evil’s sake.

He’s not like Sidious or Vader.

He’s not insane, or broken, or sadistic.

He just knows that he’s the smartest man in the room, and behaves accordingly.

Honestly, Thrawn is a big part of why I ever had a liking for the Empire, and why I'm such a fan of Star Wars Space Battles.

He's someone with such influence that being under his command alone is just a different experience altogether for anyone serving in the Imperial Navy. I also feel like maybe, if I was an Inquisitor or some other Dark Acolyte then I'd be happily serving his command on the ground,

Grand Admiral Thrawn

A malevolent, Machiavellian, slightly unhinged but very tactful, strategic, cunning and patient evil this being has and mind. He wouldn't care less sending you to the most gutteral death possible but he can be patient and wait for the right moment to obliterate you, just in time for another tactic to work in his favor. He analyzes the enemy presented before him. He studies them well. He finds their weaknesses but strikes at their vulnerabilities and fears instead. He tries to make an effort at being strategic in his moves and however possible, he makes sure that the impact of his attacks are successful and has minimal damage to his own assets. He's not ruthlessly evil like his masters Vader and The Senate, but his tactful and strategic mind can blow you to pieces both physically and mentally.

There is a reason why this man is brilliant in the form of evil that he conforms to, but to me he's not evil. There's a certain thing about him that makes him stand out from the typical Imperial.
