Some clarifications:
North Africa did of course see conflict, the pacific did get occupied — even the places that didn't (eg: India) still paid for the war. Damn double-negatives.
That weird Romania-Hungary-Russia border is a holdover from WWII. The border lasted until 1946 and was changed in 1947. Later in the video you'll see the more familiar borders.
Indonesia declared Independence in 1945 (Like Vietnam), but the Netherlands didn't withdraw until 1949, hence my mention of '49.
"Europe is inconceivably at peace". We really didn't realise quite how inconceivable that was until, well. One little Vova.
ОтветитьJust seems that no matter how much information you add, there will always be details that influence how the history is seen. Like Einstein writing against how the US was treating students and teachers (similar to how now universities and scientists are demonized). Or the CIA admitting to making up the "dictator" thing for propaganda. Or the US refusing a neutral reunification effort for Germany, and putting a bunch of Nazis back into power (all because leftist policies were popular). Hell, the US bringing down democracies in Latin America. Or for the UK after the wa,r those socialists running the factories were sent to torture camps, separate from the labor camps the Fascists were sent to... All to end with a popular referendum being ignored fucking over generations. This period was absolutely insane.
ОтветитьI am German, born in 2002 (the same year we started using the Euro) and I cannot begin to describe how much our history of being devided still effefcts people in Germany. My mother's entire generation remembers the fall of the wall. We are one country again and I have never seen the east and west separated in my lifetime. But I just want to put out there that the west of Germany still is considered wealthier then the east, and while I don't know all the reasons for that, it is to a part because economy plummeted in the east after the fall of the wall. the DDR didn't rely on market demand, there was only so much of these and these things. So the new and oftentimes higher quality stuff from the BRD, that suddenly was within reach, looked a lot more appealing. On the other hand, people in the DDR weren't used to be without a job. In theory, there was no one without a job. And suddenly, with the reunion, people didn't just loose their jobs, sometimes their entire line of work didn't exist anymore. My mom was one of the people effected by that, the job she was in training for stopped existing basically overnight. The people of the DDR were also not familiar with being lied to by politicians with an agenda, which happened a lot in the West. Promises made before an election had to mean the politicians would keep their word, right? Right???
My family is from East Germany and I really don't know enough about how life was in the West before the wall came down, but all that goes to say; while the reunion was a good thing, people still suffered from it and the aftermath is still very much there. The things happening before, during, and after the reunion still have an effect. Probably not in grand noticable ways, but still, it's there.
(Also there was the whole Stasi thing in the DDR but I'm only gonna touch that one with gloves, this comment is already way too long, I doubt anyone will read it)
I just wanna add a 'fun fact' about the Indonesian war of Independence. (He said overly sarcasticly.)
The Dutch gouvernment pulled a Putin on the Netherlands by calling the Indonesian war of Independence "politional actions". As in, acts done by the police to keep public order in place of the country where there's civil unrest.
All actions done in Indonesia in the period 1945-1949 by the Dutch gouvernment were called politional actions far into the 20th century. I can't tell you when Dutch history books stopped using the term politional actions as a euphenism, but it must have been somewhere in the late 20th century as far as I've read.
But yes, the Netherlands literally pulled a "it's a special military operation" already in 1945.
History indeed does repeat itself.
do you think america latin countries is ameica puppet like east europe and soviet union
Example chile coup 1973,america invade nicaragua and panama
Fun fact there was a proxy war where the ussr and the USA were on the same side. The Nigerian civil war where the sides were. USA Russia and the Uk on the Nigerian side. And in Biafra side was France China and Israel.

ОтветитьI've been getting reports from Gen Z the War In Iraq (circa 2003, not the Gulf War ten years earlier) is being taught in US high schools as retaliation for 9/11 and not Because George W. Bush thought Iraq had nukes so revisionism is going strong even as we angry grampas are here to harumph and say that's not how it was.
Curiously, when we still had boots on the ground in Iraq, we were getting an awful lot of reports that yes, our troopers thought they were there for revenge for 9/11.
Meanwhile, we're closing in on 80 years without a nuclear war! Whoo!
Capitalist monarchy bad, capitalist liberal democracy bad, state-capitalism one-party state bad.
