Even though as a Greek would be proud of this theory, same scorchings are found in different megalithic sites in the world like Perú etc. So I believe Briens Foerster theory of a cataclysm is more aplausable

I Wonder if a type of ancient fire technology could have been used to melt rock and use it as a sculpting technique

The statues shown here look scorched as opposed to being melted and have cracked, like what molten aluminium does to concrete, cracks and explodes because of moisture trapped in the concrete, no different to granite it contains moisture same effect cracks and explodes just add a heat source.

Here's something controversial: What if the Great Pyramid was built as a safe place for the king (who was considered a living god) to shelter from a Coronal Mass Ejection? It would explain the shape of the pyramid; it would explain why the pyramid was cased in polished limestone; and it would explain the need for the massive granite blocks above the king's chamber.

Where did you get the idea that Greek fire burns at over 1000 C ?
Most organic substances burn at far lower temperatures than that.

If it was a burning organic oil then it would burn faster when you throw water on it. What happens is that the burning oil is hotter than the water - so the water boils and throws the oil droplets up into the air like a mist. The greater surface of the mist compared to the liquid means greater exposure to oxygen so the oil burns more fiercely.
This is why you should never attempt to extinguish burning oil in a frying pan with water. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

I would expect fire damage from a weapon to be shot from the ground up and not landing on top of the target. Also a weapon would be most likely aimed at the face of the Statue to burn its features and not the side or top.

Great video. This is interesting information about Greek Fire. Simple components for ease of utilization on the battlefield. But be forewarned DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!....As proof, I burned an old dry Christmas Tree in a 55gal. metal drum burn barrel and it went off like a rocket engine. The flame rose +20 feet into the sky, while no other trees were harmed, I was 20 feet away and could still feel the thermal output at ground level. It burned for 1 minute intensively and was very impressive. You could feel the flow or slip stream, like when NASA test solid rocket engines that kind of impressive.❤

For all of you "science" experts quoting the supposed differences in combustion temperatures of various flammable materials with the melting point of granite, and thus concluding that it was "impossible" for Tanis statues to suffer partial melting damage by conventional means:
The combustion point of natural hardwood charcoal is between 800-1000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Steel does not become white hot and workable for pattern welding and other traditional blacksmithing methods until 2300 degrees Fahrenheit.
Therefor, by your reasoning, every bit of pre-industrial ironmongery was impossible.
(Hint - a forced air bellows increases the heat produced by a fire far beyond the kindling temperature of combustible materials)

The actual scientific explanation is that the discoloration and deformation is caused by natural processes (weathering). I think this also happens in places on earth that have no relation with ancient fire weapons like Greek Fire. In Egypt many statues and megastructures were buried in the sand for a large part of their history. The buried parts are best preserved. The parts that stuck out are much more weathered.

if you talk about melting stone you should show some. all I see here is natural discolorations in minerals, I regularly pick up natural sandstone and the like that have those darker areas, and these have been kicking around in the great lakes forever, probably not caused by fire.

The idea is impressive. There is no doubt that they knew about hot fires back then, but this deep heating requires long-lasting radiation. There are programs today that simulate the temperature curve in different materials. The areas would have to be enclosed. A hammer would be more economical, a hammer and heat together would be better. Perhaps the Star of Betlemem?

Big problem with the greek fire theory is look at the early photos of the initial discovery. The destruction was complete and total. The melting and fire damage was most evident on the statues in the pictures ive looked at. The scoring is from head to pedestal but where the pedestals sat there weren't any glassy patches or scorching. And there's not evidence of consistent heat and melting everywhere ,but it looks more like a flash of high temp than a fire using a accelerent. What's kinda puzzling is tho you know whatever it was,was really hot because you see the melting of some of the damaged granite , which is what granite does is melt. What's kinda puzzling is all the shattered granite! One statue their is laying on it's side and is shattered from pedestal up between the leg's and thru the middle of the torso ,chest and finally head. The bottom half was in rough shape i guess because the top fell on it when it split in half. You see a sign of heat scoring on half the face and forehead and a lil onpart of the shoulder . So really not enough long exposure for heat to be greek fire. And it doesn't give a good explanation for the shattered granite. Looks like that statue took a hell of a lick to be split like that. The original photos shows a devastated field of granite blocks showing the same damage.
Also if it was a battle , why didn't they take all the riches that's been found. The city had mudbrick walls 70ft thick that show no signs of heat on whats left that haven't crumbled away.
What I'm really curious about is the foot! The front half of a sandaled foot. The statue is estimated to have been 100ft tall and be around 1500 tons. The cracked monolith at Aswan quarry is estimated at 1,100 tons the other one poking out of the ground and called the pregnant lady is 1,200 tons .gives you maybe some idea how big the finished statue at 1,500 tons. Tanis is 500 miles thru mountain's and really rough sand dunes! How did they move that one? Before it was finished it must have been a monster around 2,000 tons plus! That makes me scratch my head along with the other huge blocks of busted granite.
So to me it looks like there was a very large release of energy directed at that city!

"Greek Fire" was available LONG BEFORE the 7th Century AD, and certainly WAS NOT the Brainchild of the Byzantine Empire. The Greeks used it to repel a Roman Fleet attacking the Greek Colony on the coast of Sicily around 150BC or earlier.
