ATTENTION: it has been brought to my attention that the super DMG motherboard has an issue with the link port. The design on the board I used in the video has a couple traces that are incorrect and could cause damage if connected to another Game Boy via a link cable. Since my video was released it has been corrected by kamicane and the updated design has been uploaded to his GitHub. Unfortunately the kits sold by J&T Studios most likely have the issue with the link port. I recommend that you do not purchase the kit unless you do not plan to use the link port. Huge thank you to consolesandcasks for bringing this to my attention 👍 Cheers!
ОтветитьYou should have installed a rechargeable battery too 😊
ОтветитьAw man, I thought this was going to be enabling Super Game Boy features on a regular Game Boy. Oh well, still an incredibly cool build!
ОтветитьWould of been cool to have a rechargable battery installed instead of having to go to external batteries. Other than that it was a really awesome project
ОтветитьI am very interested in knowing if Rumble Feature was taken away because of using the Super Gameboy Mod? I am thinking of doing just the opposite for Rumble support to be added to the Super Gameboy. I believe Rumble was taken away from the Super Gameboy CPU and I need a DMG 01 CPU to get my Super Gameboy Rumbling with games like Pokemon Pinball. I have a Hyperkin Supa Boy and think it would be cool. Check and see if your mod took away Rumble Support please and get back to me? I can do it the other way around for my Super Gameboy project if that's the case and I won't need to Patch the CPU with disable enhancements.
ОтветитьNext time try BCM2 soldering tip. M is important!
ОтветитьGoodness I wish I had your soldering skills.
Ответитьwake me up in 2025 when we hopfully have the SP-AGS DIY board
Ответитьyour snes looks cool and i also liked the gc nano
ОтветитьCan they install it for you if you don't have the skills to do this?
ОтветитьThat is one BAD boy! 😎
ОтветитьIs adding the USB charging battery mod/feature an option with this setup?
Ответитьvery nice bnew gameboy. although, nowadays the chinese gameboy knockoffs do a better job. the ambernic rg35xx
ОтветитьI have one and it only works when plugged in but not on batteries any idea why?
ОтветитьWhat's the point?
ОтветитьI don't mind the splash screen. But this build is Awesome. 😎👍💯
ОтветитьI miss my snes super Gameboy
ОтветитьWhy isn’t there a GBC board you can drop into a DMG housing?
ОтветитьIs there a way to correct the display position? There are clear empty bands on the bottom and right side of the display.
ОтветитьNow we just need a replacement for the CPU.
ОтветитьIts really cool to see what people can do with hardware, ive recently subscribed and loving the content. Have a happy new year!
ОтветитьFor a lot of people, having to solder a cpu is a con.
ОтветитьDestroying an original part to create an aftermarket thing is lame.
ОтветитьThe gameboy format is cool they should of kept it and just upgrade graphics and internals instead of the 'touchscreen laptop' route they took with the DS.
ОтветитьI hate these kind of projects that harvest good working hardware to make something "better"
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьIs the cpu orientation JUST like in the video???
Or should I follow the markings?
Cons: could get expensive. (The supper game it don’t exactly grow in trees)
Not exactly a good first outing for some one who’s just starting to learn how to solder.
I love retro
ОтветитьPlease, change the background song , I can’t hear it anymore 😢
ОтветитьThe weird music on this video is sexually frustrating. I can't stand this channel anymore. I'm done.
Ответитьhonestly while hats off to the guys that made a modern repo PCB for the DMG, its been done many times before, and to use the superDMG cpu one would expect some of the added features of that CPU be be in use, like the expanded snes color pallet. but again defs hats of the the devs for doing the work on the pcb. most of the older repo boards unfortunately havent been release as open source. mine certainly wasnt lol
ОтветитьI thought that having a super gameboy cpu would add the color that the super Gameboy used to add on the snes
ОтветитьThis video made me really happy. Not only I found out old GameBoys can be revived, but there are heroes out there CREATING new games for it too!
ОтветитьAs amazing as this is, there are definitely some cons:
1) Soldering the cables. Since one side of those cables has a connector, might as well put another connector on the other side, so you can just plug it onto the motherboard, which should also have a connector.
2) It still uses four AA batteries. It's almost 2024, so there's absolutely no reason to still use AA batteries when you could use a rechargeable battery plugging it via USB, especially because this is a brand new designed board.
My only question is why did you go with AA batteries over going with a rechargeable L-ion battery which can go much longer and is well... Rechargeable.
ОтветитьGood video, impressive soldering skills :) the only thing thats hurting my OCD is the white border to the right of the screen and at the bottom.
ОтветитьI'm bothered by the bezel on the bottom and right of the IPS screen 😭
ОтветитьIts so sad that these companies like nintendo fail to see that there is still a huge market for their old consoles. They are just leaving money on the table. People still want em bad enough to the point where they are building them themselves.. they really should make some re-issues of their old consoles. The mini consoles are a step in the right direction, but they just arent the same..
ОтветитьI hope this question isn't too controversial, but, why isn't it a super game boy with all the four colours it supports when you're using the super game boy CPU?
ОтветитьIt'd be even more awesome if somebody could combine the Super Gameboy and the Gameboy Color, perhaps with a custom BIOS or something
Ответитьgreat to see gameboys being remade with modern boards
Ответитьsound interesting i got 2 or 3 dmg i could salvage to make some update
thanks
Looks like a good thing, my concern is the price especially when you include the new display and everything else. What was the total cost? apologies if i missed it in the video.
Ответитьi hope people make new versions of the chip or we gonna see scalpers and builders buying up all the super gameboys.
ОтветитьNow if the processor was reproduces 😅
ОтветитьIt's almost perfect and you know why? 2 reasons.
1) We - The Retro Lovers - love to see and hear the Nintendo logo everytime we powering on the console.
2) Where's the "Nintendo Game Boy" logo on that shell? This is almost blasphemy!!!! 🙂
Other than that everything is perfect. Thanks for sharing and can't wait your next videos! Peace and Love Tito from Greece!!!!!
Why not tin the pads, clean, place part, add flux and reflow with the air needle?
Ответить
