I come back to this video a lot. I first viewed it a week after its release, and since then, I have been back and forth with regard to minimalism. At one point, I got everything I had down into a single 40L backpack. That was the happiest I have ever been in my life. Since then, I have let in substantially more (mostly books, some world coins, and clothing for cold climates and personal taste), as well as more tech related junk. This all caused me to become more depressed and weighed down. I am restarting my journey to a more free life. I came up with a saying that I think sums it up really nicely: Maybe it's not what we lose - what we choose to give up. Maybe it's about letting life in.

I am assuming when you say you don't have a bank account that you get your salary in physical cash. If not, how are you being able to live and eat without a bank account?

This is an interesting video, yet I am still skeptical about many things. This seems to me like a start of life style movement that will makes humanity less dependent on things. I hope that the ideas this man contribute to the world of you tube benefit mankind.

I have a backpack that I just finished stuffing with everything I 'need'. I can certainly live with only those things. I am in the process of downsizing and I have figured out that I need to pack what I want to keep. Then give or throw the rest away. My house is sold, and it's necessary to get rid of the crap. And the clothes! I don't have a lot of clothes, but I only wear a few main pieces, why am I carrying around all those others? Just in case what? I found when I was traveling for work, that it was easier to go to the dollar store and buy a cheap bowl/fork/spoon/knife/paper towels than carry that crap around with me. Then just leave it behind when I left.

If I was single, my house would be so much emptier, but I'm married to a pack rat😢

How do you make your money(5k) and for some of the possessions I have seen like the berkey water filter and what not. Curious as I’m looking to adopt this life style and that would be my only concern is the replacing of certain parts that just require money to get. I assume you work some chores for people and they help you out by buying said items?

Do you sleep on a bed or mat? With a pillow? A blanket or sleeping bag? Under some kind of roof? Aren't you sitting in a chair at a table? What food do you typically eat? When you recharge your computer, aren't you plugging it in to the whole electric infrastructure of society, including power plants, transmission wires, substations, transformers, and all the rest? When you wash your body and brush your teeth, aren't you using someone else's water and waste-water systems? (Whether that be wells, septic, or municipal sewage?) It feels to me like you, like Thoreau, may have just offloaded your own stuff and put that function onto other people?
