Loved the race because it was a close battle for the lead pretty much all the way through. The big difference between 2023 and 2024 is that we had these similar battles in 2023, except Verstappen was always on his own at the front, so it was less exciting in a way.

That moment of reflection when you realise the 2 stop would have worked for Leclerc today. Ferrari was better on the mediums - and the delta was easily enough for Norris to catch and pass Verstappen so likely would have worked for Leclerc with only Perez (& a compliant Sainz) to pass.

Norris had one of the best races of his career. Exceeding damage limitations by beating Max. And he did this while helping along his teammate

Lando won’t take 8 points a race away because Norris is a choke artist.

What was great about today’s race was two drivers battling hard out front for the whole race without one trying to run the other off track. Brilliant drives from both Piastri & Leclerc.

A note on someone under the radar: Alonso was likely in the 7th fastest car on the grid this weekend and he still scored a P6 (really a P8), but it’ll go unnoticed as people assume he’s in the 5th best car (it was for the first half).

On the Perez/Sainz incident. Very similar to Perez/Magnussen in Monaco. Perez was the leading car in that case, but blamed magnuessen who could have moved out of the way and in this case lays the blame at Sainz. I guess that’s racing drivers though

Lovely drive from Piastri, he's absolutely insane under pressure and he kept it going and going. He's definitely developing and growing fast.
Damage control from both Norris and Verstappen. People are pointing out that unless Verstappen DNFs it's becoming mathematically possible but practically impossible for Norris to take WDC. I say it's way more likely than anyone thinks, just look at Verstappen languishing around in P6 or P7 all race with the team flailing around with upgrades. It's a mess and certainly far away from the predictions 7 months ago that Verstappen would take another clean sweep season.

Rookie Race: Would love to see it as a 10 driver rookie season on non F1 tracks in last years cars. Inianapolis road course, Turkey, Portimao, S Africa, Vietnam, New Zealand, France, Germany, India and Sepang (These could rotate among the 18 Grade One Non F1 Cal tracks) Running on gaps in F1 calendar and broadcast by F1TV / Prime / ESPN 2? Each race affects the constructors championship with Pole, Fastest Lap and Podium scoring 1, 1. & 5-3-1 points in the constructors champipship and rookie drivers cup. Participants must not have participated in an F1 race and drivers only eligible for a maximum of 3 years. F2 champion gains automatic bid to rookie cup if not picked up by F1 for a drive. Might be a video content idea?
