Thanks. My grandpa's hometown is close to Wuhan. Our old house built in Early Qing dynasty was bombed around 1940-1941. Now from the map, I clearly can see that area turned into "occupied" stage slowly.

the ccp didnt do anything in the war against japan like they say they did... in true history it was the work from nationalists and the west that ended up saving china. the ccp (communists) were hiding deep in land, while the west and the nationalists fought the japanese. Dont let china white wash this history for there false glorification

Japan’s military plan to conquer China into submission in 1-2 years was already in steady pace and by taking the most industrial hotspots they are already were half there. Only the 1938 Chinese floods by fools slowed all this down. Post China under the Japan yoke would be exploited of the elite’s DNA, oil, materials and cut off to the world. A heavily powerful IJA would result and more focus on planning north.

The Chinese Communist Party had at least 400,000 soldiers by 1940. If only they aggressively fought the Japanese instead of preserving their strength like rats.

This is a very well done summary of the 1st phase of this sino-japanese war. However I think there cannot be a completely satisfactory answer as to why Japan attacked the USA. The states would go into war only if they or their protectorates were to be attacked. Attacking the European colonies was not reason enough for the isolationist USA of the time to go to war against Japan. Japan would procure its oil and other materials from the Dutch and French colonies and could continue a focused war effort in China, albeit in tuned-down mode due to the reality of the US embargo. Even then they would have a much better chance to come out on top instead of fighting both the US and China.

The attack on the US does not make sense both in retrospect and from the 1940's point of view.

The CCP will inevitably attack Vietnam to solve its food shortage problem. If the CCP wants to start a war, the United States will inevitably block the CCP’s sea line supply. Vietnam is a country of rice warehouses and will be involved in the war sooner or later.

I have 2 questions. 1: why did japan actually attack china? Was it just because they knew china was weak and they wanted some more land? And 2: How did china have such a weak army at the start of the war, but 2 million soldiers out of nowhere when they started counter attacking?

Jpn’s economy at the time is very strong and they wanted more land. HAHAHAHAH.
