6.5 Creedmoor is flatter shooting for competition shooting, but 308 ammo would probably be more available. If you want a flatter shooting 308 Winchester reload with a lighter bullet weight, like 132 to 142 grains and adjust the seating depth for competition shooting. Keep it simple use the long term standard case.
ОтветитьSince 308 is more popular I’d say the answer to this dumb question is no
ОтветитьGreat presentation! The .308 will probably be around for as long as there are firearms. I'm less confident about the 6.5 Creedmoor but hopeful. Its stablemate, the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser is about 130 years old. This entire study would be more meaningful if a .308 bullet weight around 150 grains had been chosen. While there are some factory loads in the 175-180 grain range, the vast majority of .308 Winchester ammunition produced is between 147 and 155 grains. Whether a 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 Remington or 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser the standard velocity class 6.5 bullet runs away from the standard weight .308 in every respect. I like the .308; don't even own a 6.5 Creedmoor but do own a Mauser 98 that I rebuilt into a hunting rifle and chambered in 6.5x55 Swede before even hearing that the Creedmoor existed. I have a LOT of rounds downrange and fifty or more large animal kills with it so I know the caliber well. I handload so the difference in the cost of ammunition cost is not a factor.
If higher BC bullets in the .308 are compared to the inherently high BCs of 6.5mm bullets, the .308 takes most if not all categories other than recoil but that pretty much requires a custom built rifle to take advantage of high BC 200-220 grain bullets. That also generally requires handloading for the .308 where high BC 6.5 Creedmoor is available as factory loads. If you're looking for cheap ammunition the .308 wins easily. For accurate factory loads, there's a reason that many long range shooters shoot the 6.5.
Sectional density should not be overlooked, either. The long for caliber 6.5 still has a significant column of straight bullet pushing the mushroom after expansion; much moreso than the standard weight .308. That means deeper penetration for the 6.5.
Realistically, most shooter/rifle/scope combinations are used far more frequently inside 200 yards where there is essentially no difference between the cartridges in performance.
The real gains are in the bullet design and not the cartridge. Something like the Nosler Ballistic Tip is devastating in any caliber at the correct velocity range.
My guess is that you will pick the 6.5 Creedmoor before I even watch the vid. I WAS CORRECT. Thank you Mr. Creedmoor.
Ответить"I can give a better push than that" lol
ОтветитьI will say I don’t shoot as much as I would like but I prob shoot 5-600 rounds a year through my hunting rifles either for fun or hunting and it wouldn’t be hard to shoot out a barrel after a few years
ОтветитьI never realized the ammo spread!!! I was all set to get a couple 6.5 creed moor but ammo I been a .308 guy for the last 50 years gonna stay that way!!!
ОтветитьThe advice I’ve gotten is split between the two. I’m still undecided. However I’m leaning towards the 6.5 Creedmoor since it has a flatter trajectory and can go out farther. As well as less recoil is marvelous as well also.
Any suggestions to help a beginner?
😮
ОтветитьIdeally, both, but if you can only have one, I'm taking the 308 in a 16 inch AR-10 platform every time.
ОтветитьIf you shoot a lot like myself, the barrel life of the 308 is incredible. Guilt free shooting.
ОтветитьOne thing i found in regards to ammo, the difference in price is almost non existent. If y ou go o a Sportsmans Wharehouse, or Cabelas, or Rural King, 6.5 Creedmoor is cheaper. Especially at RK. its 29.99 for a box of Federal 140 grain, and 32 for i believe 150 308
ОтветитьShe's hilarious. 😂😂😂😂
Ответить6.5 is closer to .256
ОтветитьBoth are good
ОтветитьYa im bout to invest in some art lol... wouldnt a gun or precious metals be alot better... and u can have fun with guns
ОтветитьI picked the .308 due to more damage for Elk hunting. I’ve yet to encounter Elk ranges past 400 yards and even IF I’m glassing a open large area. I have the .338 Lapua Magnum with me.
Ответить308 will pass through 7 5gal water Jugs clean. 6.5 will get caught in the 5th.
308 will go through 6 packs of 1000 paper. 6.5 will get caught in the 4th. Just some tests we did.
308 is still viable. 6.5 is great for those with soft shoulders or prior shoulder injuries.
Old man with an aussie hat said the 3006 is still superiors than the 308 whats ur take?
ОтветитьQuestion, what is the optimum hunting bullet for 308?
What grain performs best in terms of velocity and ft/lbs?
I still love my 308 even though I own both.
ОтветитьYou should also mention that the creedmoore is a barrel burner. It burns down your barrel about 3 times faster than a 308
Ответить308 is a better in taking medium to large game& the AR-10 in a 308 are great combat riffel if i need anything bigger I've got a 338Lapua magnum in a MDT LSS XL and i hunt every thing from Elk,moose & brown bear with it, but for everything that's my go to long range riffel; but for home defence the AR-10 in 308 is best
Ответить308 will
Never be obsolete. Best round ever constructed. It’s also cheaper
Price alone makes your comment obsolete. .308 isn't going anywhere and 6.5 Creedmoor is a wannabe.
ОтветитьYou mentioned many valid points for both. However in the end the 308 will become obsolete if no one wants to shoot it anymore. I doubt that the 6.5 is going to convince us 308 owners to drop it.
Ответить308 vs 6.8 real world 308 all day long. Only top 10% shooter makes different. All others difference is so little 308 is better, bigger hole, more mass, cheaper, better availability, and not affected much by short barrel.
Ответить"You ready?"
"Yep!"
SCOPE COMES ABOUT HALF A MILIMETER FROM DESTROYING HER FOREHEAD
"What'd ya think?"
"Kinda underwhelming..."
🤨🤨
308 is my sniper most shots are taken at less than 600 m..so what the necessity of having a 6.5
ОтветитьCurrently, .308 is more expensive than 6.5 CM on my local store shelves. 7mm-08 are almost absent.
ОтветитьWhere are you shopping for to get a price of $53 for a box of 6.5?
ОтветитьSome of this was quantifiable differences, but for one thing in particular, not using .308 for Elk?
Mossberg lists the ten best moose cartridges of all time, second on the list is 308 and they say "It may be the most popular big game hunting cartridge ever made and has proven itself on everything from bear to elk, moose."
"Outdoor life" says "anyone who tells you it lacks the wallop to get the job done doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I know of a lot of moose, and even several big Kodiak bears, that met their end quickly with the .308."
Hornady lists it as suitable for "big game."
"American Hunter" says 308 "is arguably one of the most popular cartridges in the world... and is lethal on moose, elk and bear."
Not sure where you're getting that advice from to not use it for Elk.
You were comparing semi auto to bolt but 308 hands down better reloading 308 125 to 220 grn.
ОтветитьI'm thinking of hogs. I'm not an expert hunter or shooter. To me, looking at Barnes Vor-Tx for both, I prefer the .308 with a 130 gr, .308 hole, at 3000 fps over a 120 gr with .264 hole at 2910 fps. More speed with a heavier bullet is an easy choice. In an AR-10, the recoil is pretty soft. The creedmoor would be lighter, but not enuf to matter to me. Then there is availability of ammo and cost of factory ammo. Hogs are not going to be long range, but even if I go out to 300 yds, it won't matter for wind drift between the two.
Ответить.308 all day. People can't make up their minds. In handguns The Walther’s .32 was used by law enforcement. Then the Colt or Smith .38 was the gun. Then the .357 mag was the gun. Then the 9mm was the gun. Then the .40 was the gun. Then they went back to 9mm. Let me put it this way. Anything is better than a slingshot. Then you would tell me, tell that to Goliath. Anything is better than throwing a rock. If that's all that you have that might work. I'm tired of chasing the next new fad. Loved the video.
Ответитьlove both but for year we got 308 millity ammo cheap and hunted jack rabbits all summer made you better shot
ОтветитьThat's what dodge's do to the owners to much ram not enough Dodge 😂🤣
ОтветитьUmm, the 308 is the main cartridge for F-TR. So, it's used quite a bit there bud.
ОтветитьYou called the DNR over some geese. Let that sink in.
I'm about ready to unsubscribe over that ridiculous action
The 308 Winchester can handle anything in North America.. with the right bullet .. and they make the bullet ….
I hunted with a 6.5x55 for years . .. and it served me well
But it was not a 308 Winchester
same can be said about the
6.5 CM
Great hunting cartridge but not a 308 Winny
Actually I compare the 308 to the 30-06 rather than the 6.5 CM
Yep 308 is on that level
Im talking hunting … not punching holes a 22 will punch hole 😂
6.5 cant do piss all when ti comes to elk and moose hunting. No knock downs power.
Even if you get luck with a perfect shot, that thing will run a mile before it drops.
308 don’t burn up them barrels .
Ответить308 would be my choice between the 2 for a beginner hunter, and here's why..... going for deer, antelope, cougar, coyote, etc? Cool.... get a few boxes of 120 or 130 grain rounds. Need a bigge4 punch for elk? Ok... go get a few boxes of 150 grain rounds. Ooohhh... Moose or Buffao is what you are heading out for? Better grab some boxes of 180 grain....or 200 grain if you can find them. 1 gun, any hunt, several bullet weights to choose from. Also, as you pointed out.... 308 is simply less expensive all the way around. (Again.... this if 6.5 cm and 308 were the ONLY options. ) Side note: I think it is awesome that your wife prefers more recoil.... lol
ОтветитьI think we could make 308 even better with solid copper projectiles if you move to solid copper projectiles you could make the bullet much longer inside the case still have the same amount of powder pushing a lighter projectile or a little bit less powder still getting the same velocities and I think the BC would be better over the 65 greedmore. A lighter longer bullet with a little less powder would bring it back to the same original velocities of a higher BC 3 08 but the benefit of solid copper is that you could make it quite a bit longer to improve the bc. Mainly for long range precision shooting mind you
ОтветитьPurchased a Tikka T3X in 308. Getting 3-4 MOA with all ammo types. Went to sportsman’s and purchased multiple brands of 308. I’ve remounted me scope, swapped rings, made sure everything was torqued to spec, checked to make sure stock was mounted correctly. Can’t find any issues with the crown. So bummed out. Everyone loves Tikka and I happened to get the one rifle that has terrible accuracy.
ОтветитьI don't understand why people compare heavy vs lighter bullet, I prefer 143gr both 308 and 6.5cm, that's the best way to compare them
ОтветитьMy first rifle was a 6mm Remington. I shot elk, moose and deer with rifle for 10 years until the barrel shot out on it. NEVER tracked one animal. Replaced it with a .300 win mag. I shoot the .300 just as accurately as the 6mm. Same animals, same distances, and I had to start tracking animals. Shot placement is always in the boiler room with both calibers. My personal belief on this is that there are more to ballistics than numbers. There are terminal ballistics/bullet construction, velocity, and obviously bullet placement that all have to be perfect. That 6mm was the most effective caliber Ive ever used out to 450 yards. That all being said, I re-barrelled the 6mm to 6.5creed strictly for ammo availability and cant wait to shoot it.
ОтветитьBoth rounds are too identicle. Unless u can bring the dead back to say which one hurts more.
Ответить308 all day long
ОтветитьPut some tires on those rams
Ответить
